My mama was in town so let's jump into some Disney plus news. First of all, a new trailer was released on May 4th for the upcoming Miss Marvel series. No, wait. The Obi-Wan Series. The trailer features a teasing look at the return of Darth Vader. Light and Magic, a six part series looking at the special effects works of Industrial Light and Magic will be debuting on July 27th on Disney plus. The series features Rosario Dawson as the title character, which is amazing because Rosario Dawson is actually in the Marvel cinematic universe. If you watch Daredevil or Jessica Jones or Luke Cage, she is the nurse, so she has now joined the ranks of people who are both in the Marvel Universe and the Star Wars universe. 00:05:13:28 - 00:05:41:05 Kate So yeah, she's awesome. Yeah, I love her next step. Oh, boy. A trailer was released today for rides a Disney Plus original movie following the origins of the Antetokounmpo Brothers Antetokounmpo got it, three of which are in the NBA. The movie releases June 24th. That doesn't give me enough background where I have to go watch a bunch of animated like eight or ten seasons of animated stuff. It's just it's just not going to happen. Ryan, I'm going to agree with you on that one. Get out. Take pencil and paper with you and learn how to draw some of the classic Disney characters and not so classic. Right. That is a very good show. No, I watched it, too. And my daughter is in animation in college and she watched it and she did like it as well. And I'm with Derek on that. Like, just watch one episode at a time. But but yeah, it's very interesting. Very interesting. 00:08:37:13 - 00:09:12:19 Derrick And the episodes are only like 15, 20 minutes, but they only start drawing like the last half. So there's that. Okay. This week the big release for Disney was the seasonal finale of Moon Nights, which Disney has actually changed their text from series finale to season finale. Interesting to see what that's going to bring up. But Pete, I'm going to start over with you were was the finale a good way to end the night? 00:09:14:11 - 00:09:39:18 Pete So I'm going to I'm in anybody's watching knows I've really loved this series. It I think it's been fantastic. This episode to me was the most new the the least interesting of the episodes. I do think it did a good job of wrapping the story, which it kind of I don't know how else they would have done it. 00:09:39:18 - 00:09:57:29 Pete So I will give it credit to say that it took it took the story that they've been telling and then wrap that all into a nice little bow you know, had the final boss battle between Emma and Concha and Hero and Stephen. 00:09:58:02 - 00:09:58:25 Derrick Night, Mark. 00:09:58:26 - 00:10:13:11 Pete Strange night, Mr. Night Yeah. And Jake and I think the think the part I liked the best was the was the what's the scarlet scarab is that her name? 00:10:13:11 - 00:10:15:29 Kate What's yeah. Yeah. Leyla as the scarlet. 00:10:16:18 - 00:10:37:10 Pete And emote or I thought I thought that was the best part of it because it was the most surprising part of it. Even though that even though they kind of just gave her Falcons powers. But as we got this, uh, we got this, we got these special effects left over. Let's just reuse these. 00:10:38:14 - 00:10:38:27 Kate Just getting. 00:10:40:24 - 00:10:42:14 Pete So overall, I would say. 00:10:42:14 - 00:10:45:22 Derrick Heroes were interchangeable. I told you they could all go with me. The other. 00:10:46:01 - 00:10:53:03 Pete Yeah, overall, I'd say it was a good ending. To a great series for me. What do you think, Sam? 00:10:54:01 - 00:11:18:14 Kate So I liked this episode. It was the most memorably. I feel like of this season, meaning we had a lot of, you know, we had the big fight scene. We had the we have Mark and Stephen on and now sort of Jake, they get to actually have their hero moment, right? They get to defeat the bad guy. And so that's we were kind of waiting for that to happen. 00:11:18:14 - 00:11:40:25 Kate Or as that was sort of set up over the series. But I loved Leyla as a super hero also. I love that she got to be turret avatar. I want to see more of it. So I really thought that that was a great part of the episode, especially where Tower is talking to her through like the various dead people and then threw herself. 00:11:40:25 - 00:12:23:06 Kate And it was that was just kind of a funny scene. Yes. I would say I like how this episode wrapped things up, but also left open a bunch of questions, right? So we had certain things wrapped up or we thought we had Stephen and Mark wrapped up with Nina not being conscious Avatar anymore, but obviously in the after credits scene, that all got shaken up but we don't know, for example, if Layla is going to be our avatar in the future, if she were it to continue, if she'll continue being the scarlet scarab or if that was or if that's concluded now, I'm doubtful it's concluded. 00:12:23:26 - 00:12:45:08 Kate But yeah, there was just a lot of interesting stuff that happened. We don't know what happened to the gods. The one thing I'm going to say I didn't like is we didn't actually get to see the final battle scene. And one of the hallmarks of a good Marvel series or movie is seeing the defeat of the villain. Right. 00:12:45:08 - 00:13:08:00 Kate And seeing the entire battle scene play out. But because as Jake took over, right. We have this missing piece of the scene. And so it's the part of the episode I like the twist at the end with Jake, but I feel like I would have been just as happy to still have that twist, but see that full, final battle. 00:13:08:11 - 00:13:13:19 Kate So I'm a little disappointed because of that. Micah, tell us what you think. 00:13:14:02 - 00:13:35:10 Sam Well, I was going to say, I, I think that I'm missing that part was part of the beauty of this one in that it wrapped up the series well, in that there's still a part of himself he doesn't know. And I think it just sort of helps hold the whole series together. I would agree with you that I think the best scenes are with Layla. 00:13:36:02 - 00:13:55:15 Sam I really love that she's more the main character for a lot of this. And yeah, Tara talking through the dead people and also then taking over her. I was rolling with laughter at that part, just the way that she acts that of being down in pain and then jumping up and doing with the hands and. Oh, yes, yeah. 00:13:55:16 - 00:13:56:19 Sam That was my favorite part. 00:13:56:21 - 00:13:59:05 Kate It was the best. That was the best moment. Totally. 00:13:59:14 - 00:14:22:06 Sam This one was just so short. I think it wrapped things up, but they took some really big jumps that I would have loved to see another 10 minutes or so and just have a few things a little bit more explained, but they do these really big jumps right at the end. You finish the battle scene and then what happens to Layla? 00:14:22:06 - 00:14:43:29 Sam It's just sort of, boom, they're gone. And I would have loved a few more minutes there too, you know, Layla and Mark and Steven just a little bit of a conversation, and I loved some of the interactions between Steven getting to know Layla and there's this tension sort of between them. And how is Marc and Steven and her relationship going to move forward? 00:14:44:07 - 00:14:58:22 Sam And they just sort of jumped past all of that so I liked the way it ended. But if this is truly the end of this story, then I think there's some stuff that I would be disappointed with so I'll leave it with that for the moment. 00:15:00:11 - 00:15:21:13 Derrick OK? Yeah, I like the episode. I'm going to disagree. To me, it was not the most marvelous episode to me. That was episode three with the fight with Is It Michael the Bone Collector or whatever the the pilot, the pyramid, where he had to go in, didn't read the book. 00:15:21:25 - 00:15:24:11 Kate That was like Indiana Jones, though, no doubt. 00:15:24:21 - 00:15:28:20 Derrick No, that was the most marvel because that fight didn't really make a difference in the story. 00:15:28:26 - 00:15:32:21 Kate I mean, I just I mean that. 00:15:33:03 - 00:15:56:12 Derrick To me, a Marvel show is one where they're in the middle and the fights. Yes, they have all these fights, but they just keep going. The fights at the end. I don't mind. I really don't mind. In Marvel shows, there there was so much in this episode that I love, even at the beginning where Harold says, you know, Mark, Stephen, whoever else may be in, they are. 00:15:56:26 - 00:16:28:13 Derrick Yes. Sometimes we need the cold light of death before we can see reality. So it's there's so many clues there of a that not all of this is exactly real, but a lot of it is in this episode, OK, Michael, for Laila, I know they made her an amalgamation of her and her father for Scarlet Scarab, but even before she became to the Scarlet Scarab, she killed two really quickly and really easily. 00:16:28:29 - 00:16:29:09 Kate Yeah. 00:16:29:10 - 00:16:53:06 Derrick What is her true background? Well, and I know in this in the series, they don't say, but that has a question to me of she is not just some archeologists that how quickly she was able to and silently she was able to kill showed some training to me so but what. 00:16:53:07 - 00:17:18:00 Sam We got hints of that earlier on with when they went to Mr. Knight, not Mr. Knight midnight the guy who was doing the collection. And they had that weird game with the spears and they were on the horses and there was those little pyramid glass pyramid things to be interacting with him and to be talking about, oh, and I'm going to forget the oh, the place that we we heard about. 00:17:18:00 - 00:17:21:06 Sam In fact, a the Winter Soldier. 00:17:22:06 - 00:17:23:29 Pete Come a porter or something like that or. 00:17:24:00 - 00:17:24:09 Derrick Yeah. 00:17:24:17 - 00:17:31:24 Sam Yeah. For her to be mixed up in that, you know, she's got to be pretty bad ass to be doing this kind of stuff and she's into some shady stuff. 00:17:33:03 - 00:17:34:02 Kate Yeah, yeah. 00:17:36:00 - 00:17:58:11 Derrick Oh, hey, I have all sorts of questions, OK? Why did he actually why did he leave the scarab behind on Mark's chest? Why did he leave that there? Chuckles. Terrible, sweet. Well, but was it supposed to be some kind of a calling card or. I mean, it made no sense for him to leave that because it pointed them straight to where the little fat stone statue was. 00:17:59:13 - 00:18:00:00 Derrick I mean, it was. 00:18:00:11 - 00:18:07:16 Pete It was it was he didn't need it anymore. So and he thought Mark was dead, so he just left it there. But it was really just. 00:18:08:16 - 00:18:09:17 Derrick But I mean, let's. 00:18:09:17 - 00:18:12:29 Pete Call it what it was as a plot convenience really for later in the. 00:18:12:29 - 00:18:13:11 Kate Day. Yeah. 00:18:14:12 - 00:18:28:07 Sam Well, just moves along the plot of saying that she will be the scarlet scarab and it's that one last. Here it is. The skull. The scarab is actually going to Layla and that's her last little tip of before we see her. 00:18:28:19 - 00:18:51:29 Derrick Which as you look at it though to tolerate her the her breastplate has the little scarab beetle on it. Yeah. So that that's again, one of those little details Kate, I'm going to let you go so I don't talk over everything you were going to say. But trust me, there's more to talk about on this episode. So, Kate, what do you think. 00:18:51:29 - 00:18:55:01 Kate About I mean, it's funny that you think I have a lot to say. 00:18:55:17 - 00:18:56:21 Derrick Or at least something to say. 00:18:56:29 - 00:19:19:06 Kate I so I watched this episode and I like paid attention to this episode. I think I wasn't doing other stuff. I actually watched it. And it's so funny because all of you were like, it was so fast. And I was like, this episode was forever long. And, and I think I, I I, I think I needed to watch this episode twice, which I didn't do. 00:19:19:10 - 00:19:48:14 Kate And I'm realizing as I'm listening to all of you, I'm like, dude, I didn't catch that who's that person? Don't remember that name. So I there are things that, oh, my god, words are so hard, so I like it. I thought that I did like it. I liked it more than I thought I would because I tend to get tripped out and I'm going to use the wrong word again. 00:19:48:14 - 00:19:51:00 Kate Forgive me with the multiple personality. 00:19:51:03 - 00:19:52:09 Derrick Kind of identity disorder. 00:19:52:22 - 00:20:22:16 Kate That I'm never, ever going to remember that. But that that trips me out a little bit because it's so out of my realm of understanding. But and so I thought I was really not going to like this show because of that, but I just fell in love with both Mark and Stephen and Holly the Hippo, because duh. And but I did time for your check up time for you, tiger. 00:20:23:03 - 00:20:56:26 Kate You took it. But I just did not follow. I did. I was very, very confused. Very confused. Kate, the jumping between what is reality? What is like the asylum into into the Egypt, into a field of flight like I just I wanted to read it. Yeah. Yeah. And I think the scene changes do make it confusing as far as you know are we in Mark's head? 00:20:56:26 - 00:21:18:21 Kate Are we in the afterlife? Are in real life right like there is I mean, and then we went herel within the institution at the end. I I'll be honest, I didn't know if we were back inside, like the afterlife. Mark. Christ, no, no, no. I still don't know. Well, I can't lie in real life. I think we were in real life because of what happened in the car. 00:21:18:21 - 00:21:41:24 Kate But yeah, I mean, there are those scene changes are a little bit intentionally, I think, misleading to try and get you to question what's going on in and the like even when like they'd be walking and somebody was like, it's me, it's Mark. Like, I'm in this random body and I'm tried to tell you that this is a bad deal. 00:21:41:24 - 00:21:59:15 Kate It's like, wait, I thought Mark was dead. Hang on. Very confused. So I am a person that I mean, you all saw me during Loki, Micah. You didn't see me during Loki. I mean, like, like, listen, game over for me during Loki because it was like I was like, I don't know. I don't know. I don't understand any of this. 00:22:01:11 - 00:22:36:12 Kate Overall, I think this was a really good show. I think they acted the crap out of it so well, acted so well. Shot. I can't remember the main actors name Oscar Isaac. Oscar Isaac is is not human. Like he's so good. So as an actor, I very much appreciated all of that. I think I need to go back and re I think I need to rewatch it with someone sitting next to me who really understands it, who can say this is what's happening right now. 00:22:36:27 - 00:22:43:05 Kate Oh, does that make sense? So but I liked it. I think it was very I think it was a well. 00:22:44:09 - 00:23:03:03 Pete I get that. But I guess similar to Loki, like not so much this episode, but the previous episodes I just kind of went with, yeah, some of this is in his head and some of it is in the afterlife and I don't really know for sure. And I feel like they're trying to trick me into thinking into that I should be thinking it's all in his, you know what I mean? 00:23:03:03 - 00:23:18:04 Pete Like they want me to think maybe it's all in his head, which is, which is a thing I hate. So I kind of ignored that because I, I hate that whole concept that the entire thing, you know, like if they ended that way, the bar series all happened. 00:23:18:27 - 00:23:21:17 Derrick It's the Newhart thing. Yeah. It was all that work. 00:23:21:17 - 00:23:31:16 Pete But I'm talking about like. Yeah, like, it was, oh, this didn't really happen. It was all in his head type thing. I, I usually don't really care for that, and thank goodness they didn't do that. 00:23:31:17 - 00:23:33:00 Kate Yeah, it's a flip flop copout. 00:23:33:08 - 00:24:14:05 Pete But. Right, yeah, but yeah, because like, and I'm going to have some questions for Michael when we get around to that. But my biggest question is several episodes, we would jump back to Steven or Mark talking to Hiro in the psychologist's office that was a duplicate of Heroes May or houses or whatever. Yeah. Man Cave. Yeah. And like, so is that definitely in Steven's head then because then at the, at the end there they went to it again. 00:24:14:05 - 00:24:33:27 Pete And then you saw like he saw Heroes feet bleeding, which we only know about because of like the very first scene in the show, which Mark did not see and so is like but then he made it like, oh, now I know that this is this, but well. 00:24:33:27 - 00:24:45:29 Kate It's sort of in his head because it's also the afterlife right? It's the test for him when he's in the asylum, he's it's in his head, but it's also the balancing him trying to balance the scale because. 00:24:45:29 - 00:24:49:08 Derrick Like, what do you call it, an organizing principle? Yeah, something like that. Yeah. 00:24:49:08 - 00:24:52:05 Sam Yeah. Tara refers to it as the organizing principle. 00:24:52:07 - 00:25:13:21 Pete That scene takes place after he's back alive. So it's still going on in his head. Yeah, he's going back to this psychological. Right. So he's still not sure if it's reality, but the fact that he cedes here. Am I getting this right, Mike? He's the fact that he's seeing Harrow's feet bleeding. Yes, he knows. It's not that that harrow's actually the bad guy. 00:25:14:05 - 00:25:36:22 Sam Yeah. And thinking about it as the organizing principle and as he as Mark and Stephen are on this journey and they are coming to peace with they their reality is between the two of them, I think it's a beautiful way of wrapping that up in that they realize that their organizing principle that they are isn't needed anymore. And it's fun to see the two of them talk back and forth to each other. 00:25:36:28 - 00:25:54:17 Sam One of my favorite lines is did you see that when they're talking about the blood and they're realizing and we didn't necessarily see that he was walking on glass, Mark didn't. But every time he steps in every scene that Harrow is in, you hear the glass breaking every step. 00:25:54:28 - 00:25:56:26 Derrick So yeah, you hear the crunch. 00:25:56:26 - 00:25:58:18 Pete Yeah, I never noticed that. 00:25:58:18 - 00:26:17:04 Sam OK, yeah. If you go back and listen every time he steps, they very much have that. So it's one of these I think it's a beautiful way coming back to that scene to saying maybe this is how it's wrapping up and he's healing this relationship with himself there. And he no longer needs that organizing principle of that space. 00:26:17:24 - 00:26:50:04 Derrick And K going to some of our common friends has disappointed we didn't see the pivotal fight scene, just a blackout still trying to figure out why it was really TV 14 I'm guessing the the organ harvesting scene was probably the TV 14 theme he says Jacob's the chauffeur was his favorite part we'll get to that Brian says if you don't know marvel and don't know to watch through the credits you missed the ending usually a poster mid credits is something new but this one felt extremely necessary for the show ending. 00:26:50:04 - 00:27:00:18 Derrick Yeah I'm sure it was necessary but yet it was still new. So Steve says he would like more the avatars fighting less of the King Kong CGI battle. 00:27:02:12 - 00:27:20:25 Sam Can I can I just mention one thing with that is that it is this wonderful. If you know much of Greek mythology or ancient mythology, there is this idea that the people will fight and their gods fight at the same time. And this was a beautiful capture of that. And I thought they did an awesome I'm not OK. 00:27:20:25 - 00:27:39:02 Sam I am a little bit into the big monsters fighting but I think it's more this was the we see the the action of the little people and their gods going at the same time. And I thought for those of us that know mythology, that is just a beautiful capturing of some of that mythology. I thought the season started out kind of weak, and then I loved when we hit the asylum. I was all about it, so I have to give it a balance. And I, you know, there are some holes in this last episode that bothered me so solid. I think this is my favorite of all of the Marvel shows and all of the Marvel movies. I absolutely loved this and the way that they played it and a lot of the hints. I will go back and watch this again at some point, especially if he shows up again. I will watch this season again. I love the dissociative identity disorder angle. I love that kind of stuff. That's part of the reason I loved Wanda Vision so much. So for me, a solid and I almost gave it a four, but I couldn't quite. I mean, this is this is tied for my highest Marvel rating. So I really enjoyed this a big says it's the three Steves in a 43 says up to because Oscar Isaac crushed it OK genius as a three has definite rewatch ability so I think we all enjoyed the series which we don't always say. 00:55:38:03 - 00:55:57:18 Pete It and I do want to make one more comment on it. I, I love the inner connectiveness of Marvel but it was actually nice having a series that wasn't so connected. And one of the things I kind of liked about Eternals sort of was that, I mean, the movie wasn't good but it was also something that was more standalone than, than other things. And, you know, there's nothing wrong with having a standalone story and then later bringing the character in as opposed to, you know, most of the series so far. 00:56:29:07 - 00:56:35:13 Pete Right. But I didn't but I had never I had not seen an endgame or any of those.
