But first, Disney had it was National Streaming Day. Sam, what do we got. 00;01;52;14 - 00;02;14;02 Sam You did you do it's time for the Disney Plus News. I felt like I needed to channel a little bit of confused hate for the Disney plus news tonight. We have a lot of stuff going on, guys. So first on the list is hocus pocus to is going to be released September 30th on Disney. Plus, it's going to follow the original Sanderson sisters as they attempt to return to Salem again. 00;02;14;10 - 00;02;21;15 Sam And we all know that this is going to star the same three witches as the original. Pretty exciting. 00;02;21;16 - 00;02;24;17 Derrick Yeah. It's it's something. 00;02;26;04 - 00;02;26;09 Pete Yeah. 00;02;27;04 - 00;02;30;19 Derrick Yeah, well, I. I'm withholding judgment on that one. 00;02;31;00 - 00;02;56;20 Sam Fair enough. All right. Well, next is Disney Plus has announced its ad supported service, meaning it's going to have two versions of Disney, plus one that's ad supported and one without ads. But they have announced that they'll keep the ads to under four or 4 minutes or less per hour. They've also announced there won't be any political or alcohol ads on the show, and they haven't announced pricing, but it's likely going to coincide with the raising of the non ad service price. 00;02;56;27 - 00;03;11;14 Sam And Disney executives are suggesting that they think more people will take the ad supported version of the platform because obviously it will be less expensive. I don't know about you guys, but I am not into the ads and I'm going to be paying a higher price for that. 00;03;11;14 - 00;03;12;03 Pete No ads. 00;03;12;19 - 00;03;36;27 Derrick Yeah, probably so I'll probably keep the no ads too. This is probably the streaming service that I want to put. So yeah. Yeah, I know for me part of it's to depend independent what Verizon decides to pay for because that's how we're getting all of our Disney stuff is if you're a Verizon customer, you get it automatically. But yeah, if they give us a chance to pay up for the non ad, yeah, I'm not paying for it. 00;03;37;00 - 00;03;38;04 Derrick I'll pay for no ads. 00;03;38;20 - 00;04;05;21 Sam Yeah, well, it's on here. Yeah. So we've got some new Star Wars news coming out one. It's been confirmed that the Star Wars series Scandal is going to premiere sometime this summer and the Mandalorian will be released either late 20, 22 or early 20, 23. And a soap is going to come in 20, 23 as well. But Disney also announced a new Star Wars series codenamed Ram, a rodeo, and that is in development from the Spiderman homecoming. 00;04;05;27 - 00;04;10;29 Sam John, once nothing's confirmed about it at this time. So we'll have to wait for more news on that. 00;04;11;09 - 00;04;30;04 Derrick I yeah, my guess is I will guess for and or probably August into September because September is still technically summer somehow. Yeah. The that new series I heard somewhere that they are looking at doing like with younger like. 00;04;30;22 - 00;04;31;11 Pete Teens. 00;04;31;11 - 00;04;42;22 Derrick Or something like that where was going to be kind of like a gambling eighties type style ah show. So I don't know if that's true. It's something different interesting. 00;04;43;22 - 00;04;51;28 Sam So in other news, Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road, a documentary that centers around Elton John's last concert of course is going to be coming to Disney plus. 00;04;52;29 - 00;04;54;27 Derrick Disney paid a ton of money for that. 00;04;55;16 - 00;05;16;19 Sam But that also a new trailer was released for the upcoming Betamax series, which is going to premiere on June 29th. There's also been an announcement that Zombies three is soon going to be coming to Disney, plus the Disney Channel. The movie is going to debut on July 15th, I believe Zombies one and Zombies two is already on the platform. 00;05;16;23 - 00;05;18;16 Derrick Has anyone watched one and two? 00;05;19;16 - 00;05;20;12 Sam I have not. 00;05;20;25 - 00;05;26;00 Derrick I've seen most of one and it's not good. OK. 00;05;26;15 - 00;05;27;01 Sam It's kind of. 00;05;27;09 - 00;05;28;01 Derrick As an adult. 00;05;28;07 - 00;05;36;17 Sam Yeah, it's kind of the tween crowd like sort of high school musical. And The Descendants is kind of that teen audience. 00;05;36;19 - 00;05;47;11 Derrick I think it's fair. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Descendants Proud High School musical to me had a higher level of quality than some of the Who. 00;05;47;29 - 00;06;07;02 Sam Well, speaking of High School musical, there's going to be a season four of High School Musical, the musical, the series and Season three is going to premiere on July 27th, and it's going to center around a summer theater camp and it's going to feature the musical Frozen. So I guess. 00;06;07;02 - 00;06;08;25 Derrick Why can't they just let this series go? 00;06;09;05 - 00;06;10;20 Sam I know. I can't say. 00;06;10;20 - 00;06;12;26 Derrick That I beat you to it. Well, I have to say, the show must do very must be, must have done very well in its first two. 00;06;26;10 - 00;06;27;02 Pete Seasons. 00;06;27;13 - 00;06;49;22 Derrick For them to come out and say and announce the season four without having shown season three because that's pretty rare in streaming for them to come out and announce seasons past the next one. But we already have and our season two announced and they got to Belmar season four while the kids still look young enough. 00;06;50;06 - 00;06;52;08 Sam Yeah, they'll probably do a back to back filming. 00;06;52;11 - 00;06;52;14 Pete Oh. 00;06;52;25 - 00;06;55;09 Derrick They already look like 25. So yeah. 00;06;55;29 - 00;07;14;28 Sam So what do you want them to write? They don't want them to look like 35. OK, right. We still have a few more announcement. You guys it's kind of crazy. So there we've got a little bit of Marvel news. So there is a new Devil Devil series that's in the works for Disney Plus and the Daredevil characters that have appeared. 00;07;15;04 - 00;07;43;22 Sam There are some Daredevil characters that have appeared in recent MTV Fall, such as Kingpin and Hawkeye and Daredevil himself and Spiderman, No Way Home and Charlie Cox is Daredevil himself, is reported to be returning for the show for the new series. In other Marvel news, Agatha the House of Hearts. This is going to be beginning production this fall and will come out during the 2023 2024 TV season, meaning maybe a premiere around Halloween of 2023. 00;07;44;21 - 00;08;13;14 Sam Those are really exciting to me as a huge Marvel fan of course. And then last but not least disenchanted which is the sequel to Enchanted is going to premiere on this Thanksgiving November 24th all four of the main characters are returning as well as many new faces and years after the original. And it centers around Giselle being forced back to Andalusia after a spell backfires and she's in the firing line of another evil queen played by Maya Rudolph. 00;08;13;26 - 00;08;19;19 Sam So it's got a great cast and I guess we will wait and see. But that's it for the Disney Plus News. 00;08;20;07 - 00;08;46;05 Derrick Yeah, I the Disney Channel and sequel. The sequel looks intriguing on that one. So it again, that could that could go a couple of different directions. So I have to say, I'm looking forward to that more than hocus pocus do. Very much so. So all right. This week, we had the premiere of Chippendale Rescue Rangers. It's not a reboot. 00;08;46;05 - 00;08;55;29 Derrick It's a comeback. Well, I'm going to start with Steve on this one. Steve, was it a nostalgic reboot or was it just a mistake? 00;08;57;24 - 00;09;23;25 Pete It's not a reboot. It's not a mistake. I'd say it's more of a callback, but I loved it. I loved all the Easter eggs. I definitely need to watch it again. Yes. Knowing there's parts of missing it. Some of my favorite where Winchell and Duncan, the Dog Donuts from Wreck-It Ralph. I love the reference to depth from Roger Rabbit and the little cube in there. 00;09;25;05 - 00;09;49;04 Pete I didn't grow up watching this series, but I still got lots of references from all sorts of animation. I'm surprised how many non Disney references that worked throughout the movie. So overall for a plot, predictable plot, but still very enjoyable. Found myself out laughing out loud. Totally enjoying the movie. Sam, what do you think. 00;09;49;26 - 00;10;30;08 Sam So I would pretty much agree with everything you said, Steve. I this was not a mistake, but the plot was kind of predictable and dopey. And not great. But this movie was all about the cameos, the one liners on the, you know, the the calls, the Easter eggs, as you call them, and seeing all these other characters from prior series, seeing Roger Rabbit, seeing dark winged dark, seeing just all of these random characters from all over, not just the Disney Universe, but even, you know, Simpsons and all kinds of animated series. 00;10;30;12 - 00;11;00;17 Sam I will say I didn't love the mix of animated with live action. And I also didn't love that that deal had been CGI. I kind of wish that he had just been flat animated just like Chip was. I thought that was kind of a silly plot point, but it was enjoyable because there was a lot of really good one liners, a lot of a lot of really funny parts in this movie, despite pretty dopey plot. 00;11;00;28 - 00;11;02;19 Sam Derek, what did you think? 00;11;03;01 - 00;11;37;10 Derrick Well, I will say for once, I am smack dab in the middle of a target audience. For a Disney movie. My generation is the target audience. We remember coming home after school and watching these that the cultural references were almost all eighties and nineties because the Easter eggs made the show. However, the movie itself was a huge mistake the first 50 minutes of the movie or so are concerned more with being cute and bringing in jokes that some plot happens, but not a lot. 00;11;38;06 - 00;11;57;20 Derrick We know that Chippendale had a falling out, and in the background we hear that there are some tunes in trouble. But until we meet Sweet Pea, it is an incredibly dull movie. It felt like the writers were sitting around brainstorming any ideas they could come up with for cameos and then decided to use every single one of them. 00;11;58;18 - 00;12;17;28 Derrick For me, the movie improved when they got to the factory until the end, but the beginning is really a slog. I did think it was neat that the actors who played the original gadget was gadget in the movie. She's also the actress who did the she was chip in the original and she was Chippendale going to high pitch. 00;12;18;19 - 00;12;21;05 Derrick That was her doing that all so cool. 00;12;21;05 - 00;12;25;03 Sam I didn't realize I did. There were some great voice actors out the. 00;12;25;03 - 00;12;46;09 Derrick Movie and Corey Burton, who did the original Voices of Day on the Zipper again when they were the high voices, he came back and redid them. Jim Cummings, who is everywhere in Disney, voice acting. He's he's been the new Tigger. He's been all of those kind of things, was the original Monty. In about half the episodes, he comes back and does Monty. 00;12;47;27 - 00;13;10;14 Derrick He also Corey Burton, the Deal and Zipper also did it was Cat Bane. So in all the Star Wars stuff, he has been Cat Bane on that. But despite all the neat tidbits, it does not overcome such a weak plot. There's a reason they brought this straight to Disney. Plus, I had high hopes, but this was a huge mess for me. 00;13;10;23 - 00;13;42;22 Derrick Pete so I'm kind of in the middle on it, too. More so than Derek, more like Sam. I was expecting it to either be really bad or hilarious, and it was kind of either there there were some very funny moments I did like the ugly sonic jokes. I thought that was pretty funny considering, like, you know, and there were some, you know, the Uncanny Valley and the Dead I Polar Express. 00;13;42;22 - 00;14;07;11 Derrick There were some jokes there that I did enjoy. A lot of jokes fell flat for me, though. And in addition to that, I was I don't know anybody else on this. I was very distracted by them using John Mulaney and Andy Samberg for Chippendale. I, John Mulaney for cheap. That one really didn't work for me. John Mulaney was worse, I think of the two. 00;14;07;11 - 00;14;21;01 Derrick But it wasn't that they did a bad job. It was just the entire time I'm thinking, oh, that's John Delaney. Oh, that's an Andy Samberg even kind of played Dale like he played his character in Brooklyn that night. So it was yeah. 00;14;23;13 - 00;14;34;02 Sam It's too much like people instead of like the characters. And you're picturing them too much in your head because they're really great. So distinct. Yeah, they agree. 00;14;34;02 - 00;14;34;15 Pete Yeah. 00;14;34;23 - 00;14;57;20 Derrick And I don't know, like, I don't know what they really liked as their names did people go, Oh, I'm going to watch the Chippendale movie because John Mulaney, isn't it? Or maybe. But I think he's funny because Andy Samberg is in it. I don't know. I just. Yeah, I you know, I mean, two guys that have good comedic timing and I guess, I guess so maybe that's why they did it. 00;14;57;20 - 00;15;24;03 Derrick But I found that distracting on my end. So I would say probably a little more of a mistake than a nostalgic reboot. But I'm also a little too old for Chippendale Rescue Rangers. I never watched the original show, so of course. Yeah, OK. My daughter just said I'm a little too young. Yeah, and that's a that's a very fair criticism. 00;15;24;12 - 00;15;50;21 Derrick It's it my my samurais ice age and to a little bit lesser extent Cate's age where she here is your target audience, your thirties and forties somethings are your target audience. Right. So Gina says she loves the movie because it's a spoof film. Not enough. Gina, I would say, did love Senator. But had the bootlegs, were those the family home video bootlegs? 00;15;50;21 - 00;16;11;12 Derrick Yes, the the everyone has seen it. Yeah. Or those are the ones that you can find on Netflix when no, Disney is not on there and you search for Beauty and the Beast and it comes up, you know, Beauty and the half dog mama. Yeah. And Nick does say and Mama for the women. 00;16;11;26 - 00;16;12;24 Sam I love, that was. 00;16;12;24 - 00;16;37;15 Derrick Pretty good. How did that one work? Yeah. So OK, now if we are agreed this was kind of a mixed bag leaning towards not quite so classic. Sam, I'm going to start with you. And I know you wanted to start this first. What old show or movie would you like to see done as either a reboot or a comeback and do it either as a movie or a series? 00;16;37;24 - 00;16;38;08 Pete OK. 00;16;38;25 - 00;17;04;17 Sam So because we've already because they've already rebooted Ducktails. So I had to set Ducktails aside and I have to go with Gummi Bears bouncing here and there and every where. And I have to sing it because these cartoons, as Derek said, these are our generation's cartoons. This is what we would watch Saturday morning. This is what we would watch if we got home from school. 00;17;05;06 - 00;17;29;25 Sam So it was all about rescue rangers, ducktails darkling dark and gummy bears and gummy bears was one of the best places. Oh, Tailspin. I forgot about Tailspin. That's a great one, too. So all of these are great, but I have to go with gummy bears. I mean, it starts with a great catchy theme song. It's got adorable, cute characters. 00;17;30;06 - 00;17;36;01 Sam And it just brings back all the feel for this eighties and nineties kid. Derek. OK. 00;17;36;15 - 00;18;02;16 Derrick Well, I want to start by saying that based on recent history, the fact that original story, you seem to be in very short supply. There's a good chance that several of these will actually show up on Disney plus at some point there. So and with that in mind, my initial reaction to the reboot question was the original Zorro TV show, and I know they are remaking that it has is rumored to be in production. 00;18;02;16 - 00;18;27;24 Derrick They've I know they've hired the leader. My hope is they don't take it too seriously. You got to keep the pratfalls you got to keep the fact that sergeant you got to keep the fact that Bernardo was mute and pretended to be deaf because it wasn't played or humor. It was it was critical to the show. And it's you know, he was so smart and it will really lose something if they try to take it super seriously. 00;18;28;13 - 00;18;41;11 Derrick I'm OK if it's in color. The original was in black and white, but if it's in color, it needs to be technical crayon. It needs to be the supersaturated bright somewhat like a telenovela that's not taking itself seriously. 00;18;41;28 - 00;18;46;01 Sam So and you're saying TV series, not movie, right? That's what I was saying. 00;18;46;09 - 00;19;11;27 Derrick I think TV series the TV, they they kind of done it as a movie with Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins. The first one was much better than the second. But I it still didn't have quite the right feel for me. So, Pete, what about you? Yeah, you should be producing that, but I doubt that's what we're going to get Disney on yet. 00;19;12;11 - 00;19;35;05 Derrick I'm going to go with the favorite of my daughters that they actually did try to reboot a couple of years ago. And it was terrible. But I'd like to see an animated reboot, which is impossible. Mm hmm. My daughter really liked that show that she was actually a little too young, like it was already off the air, and we had to, like, really search it out. 00;19;35;05 - 00;19;40;12 Derrick But she loved the show, and then they rebooted it as a live action show movie. 00;19;40;22 - 00;19;42;14 Pete A couple of years ago. And it. 00;19;42;23 - 00;19;53;13 Derrick Was all. So I forget the live action. I let's let's bring it back as an animated series. That's why. OK, Steve. 00;19;55;06 - 00;20;12;16 Pete I I have to go more recent. I'd like to see a reboot of Gravity Falls, because I came across Gravity Falls because my students were watching a few years ago and just loved the weirdness of it. I love it like the hidden ciphers and puzzles in it. So my vote would be for Gravity Falls. 00;20;13;04 - 00;20;23;20 Sam I love that vote, Steve, because I'm obsessed with Gravity Falls. And if there was a Gravity Falls over again, you can bet that me and my family would be driving down there. Yeah. 00;20;24;28 - 00;20;50;05 Derrick Then OK, next. Next vote is Darkling Dark. Gino's says that even the movie alluded to it. Yeah, that was your that was your credit scene. Second place is Tailspin at Nick's. There's a Captain EO to then have to do some massive recasting on that one for Muppet babies. Nick they tried that. It was horrible. They tried that. It was terrible. 00;20;50;15 - 00;21;03;28 Sam My son actually didn't mind it. It wasn't like a favorite or anything, but he he enjoyed it. But it was definitely for, like, the younger kid crowd. And so it was more like a Disney junior type stuff. 00;21;04;08 - 00;21;17;00 Derrick OK, now anyone have a second show that one would want to see redone? Because I do. I OK, and I've got two older these are two older movies that could be redone one The Ugly Docs, and. 00;21;17;28 - 00;21;19;00 Sam I don't know that one. 00;21;19;02 - 00;21;46;28 Derrick Which is basically a Great Dane is raised with a bunch of docs and so it thinks of the docs the Beethoven movies worked. That would be a I mean, who doesn't love a dog movie? Let's think Earbud and Beethoven, that whole thing. But the one I was really thinking about was 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. With all of the adventure movies being made, you've got a story that people are vaguely familiar with, but most people don't really know, but it has the name recognition. 00;21;46;28 - 00;22;09;01 Derrick Most people who have heard of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, it's got the mad captain who everyone would think stole the organ playing bit from Davy Jones. But it was really kind of the other way around and I would love to see practical effects for the sea monsters, not so much CGI sea, and it has Jerry Bruckheimer written all over it. 00;22;09;17 - 00;22;34;28 Derrick I know it would OK because he already did Pirates of the Caribbean. I would think it would then it would feel to who pirate. But well, I mean, it's hard. Yeah. Be hard to not go super priority. So you're probably going to be happy Derek because they are rebooting 20,000. Let's see there's a series let's I mean called Nautilus. 00;22;35;20 - 00;22;55;23 Derrick Yeah. See I do it as a movie. Well they're doing it as a series now. The one that a lot of people aren't going to agree with me on. I think there is a way you could redo Song of the South. I think you could keep a lot of the original and I even think you keep a lot, a lot of the original animation. 00;22;55;23 - 00;23;18;20 Derrick You couldn't keep all of it. There's a scene in there how they originally Cap Catch Bear Rabbit you definitely could not keep because they catch him with a literal person made out of tar and the the racial slur that goes along with it. But I don't know why now, but to me, I think it could work. Not now, Pete. 00;23;19;20 - 00;23;22;07 Derrick I don't think that's going to happen. Maybe you can make it work. 00;23;22;12 - 00;23;23;02 Pete It's not going to happen. 00;23;23;02 - 00;23;24;00 Derrick There's not going to happen. 00;23;24;12 - 00;23;33;20 Sam I'll be honest. I've actually never seen it. And so I, I only know, like, just about the tar baby thing, but I never watched it. 00;23;33;20 - 00;24;06;25 Derrick And so the idea behind it is he's, you know, the old happy old slave that's telling all these stories to the kid a little old, little white kids that are on the plantation and talking about, you know, has all these stories with Brer Rabbit and Bear, Fox and Blair Bear. And it's incredibly racist. But, yeah, it's definitely it's definitely something that I wish they would present it, that you could see it but they would also very much need to put a huge tag on it, right? 00;24;07;09 - 00;24;12;21 Derrick Yeah. Very much say, you know, of a certain time and. 00;24;13;12 - 00;24;27;18 Sam Well, I'm not living I'm not loving Derek additional ones, but I love Nick, Nicky Anderson, has another comment of Dinosaur But the momma, not momma. 00;24;28;22 - 00;24;48;28 Derrick Now. OK, I'm going to throw this in here. You know, you're going to have to speak on your toes, guys. What is a show you think should never be redone? A show that you think is as it is should never get redone. And since I thought of this a little bit ahead of time, I will go first OK, piece drag. 00;24;49;02 - 00;25;15;19 Derrick Wait, Dumbo. Oh, wait. Merry pop parents. OK, no. Anyway, the two that come to mind for me are Old Yeller and the original Apple Dumpling Gang. But Old Yeller, no one wants to go to an animal movie. An ugly cry. I mean, because it happens the Apple Dumpling Gang is the best you could get is two comedians trying to do their Don Knotts and Tim Conway impersonations. 00;25;16;18 - 00;25;38;02 Derrick It's a wholesome show that may just end up in the vault at some point fairly soon. So, Pete, what's what's a show so not quite. Never. Not quite Disney, but ABC is owned by Disney. Yeah. Please never reboot lost. Oh, you can make it better. 00;25;38;20 - 00;25;40;22 Sam You redo the ending then you can. 00;25;41;12 - 00;25;57;16 Derrick But I mean, the show. Yeah, well, I mean, the early part of the show is very good, but, yeah, it kind of spiraled out of control. And I just I just don't want to see him try again in oh. 00;25;58;08 - 00;25;59;18 Pete I don't know what to say. 00;26;02;22 - 00;26;13;22 Pete Actually comes to mind. No more Herbie the Love Bug movies they tried to reboot did not work. Leave the originals alone. Do not reboot Herbie. 00;26;15;10 - 00;26;18;20 Derrick I I think that would be hard to pull off today, so I would agree with that. 00;26;19;14 - 00;26;28;22 Sam I'm going to tell them to stop making live action movies out of animated movies and don't make a Little Mermaid live action. 00;26;28;22 - 00;26;31;09 Derrick Too late. Listen, I know there's a staged show coming and I'm OK with the stage show version, but ixnay on the remake of animation. 00;26;44;12 - 00;27;07;19 Derrick I would do that.
