Jackson shared that he was headed to London for reshoots of the Secret Invasion series. 00;03;37;01 - 00;03;46;07 Kate Reports are that the research shoots are extensive, possibly lasting several months. I think the reason they're going so deep into it is that that's going to be I think that's going to be a huge show for the upcoming for like part MCU five or whatever or whatever we're up to now. 00;04;03;06 - 00;04;29;02 Kate Absolutely. All right. And last but certainly not least, a series that is equal to The Goonies. Oh, my gosh. It's sequel, y'all. I'm doing really good today. A series that is a sneak wheel to The Goonies has been given the green light by Disney. Yes, he is currently on his way, so he's actually running a little bit late tonight. So, yeah, I know. We're going to start talking about the actual series. We had the finale of it this week. And Gina, I'm actually going to start with you on this one. 00;07;58;27 - 00;07;59;18 Gina Yes. 00;07;59;29 - 00;08;04;18 Derrick So thoughts about the finale, thoughts about this. Let's start with thoughts about the finale. Okay. 00;08;04;27 - 00;08;29;19 Gina So let me start with I love Darth Vader. So Darth Vader is my favorite character and I really enjoyed in the finale seeing why Obi-Wan said he was dead and that for me was full circle. And that made this better, the better ending, and it tied it all together for me. So I was really worried cause I'm like, I don't care, you know? 00;08;29;20 - 00;08;46;24 Gina No one cares about Leia. She's cute, she's spunky, but we already know she's going to be okay. She's going to be the senator. She's going to be a princess. We know. And then we know about Luke. We know his whole journey. So I was really happy to see why did Obi-Wan say that? As a series, I really enjoy. 00;08;47;22 - 00;08;47;27 Derrick This. 00;08;48;21 - 00;08;51;02 Gina Finale. All right. Now, now, go ahead. That's it. 00;08;51;03 - 00;09;21;05 Pete P t I would say that this was my favorite episode of the series so far. I, I did. I knew there they had some flaws with the entire concept and that there was only like you knew that a battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi could not end in either of them being seriously injured or killed. So that really limited what they could do with that. 00;09;21;05 - 00;09;50;27 Pete And I thought with that limitation, they did a really good job of making it in such a way that, you know, I enjoyed that. I was like, you know, going, Yeah, and that kind of thing. And I did like I liked the ending in the wrap ups and everything like that. And I and I kind of, even though it was probably the least surprising secret cameo in the history of secret cameos, I enjoyed the cameo at the end. 00;09;51;14 - 00;10;03;20 Pete And so so overall it was it was definitely a good episode and I enjoyed I thought they wrapped it up well. So Derek. 00;10;03;20 - 00;10;11;09 Derrick This episode was what we all wanted the entire series to be. It also proved to me that this should have been a movie instead of a series. 00;10;11;29 - 00;10;13;13 Gina Because I agree with that. 00;10;13;21 - 00;10;50;18 Derrick There was in this that we got the showdown between Obi-Wan and Vader. We got him calling him Darth Vader. And in that, that makes it seem like he's acknowledging his title as, okay, you are gone. You are now this dark. The dark Lord. Yeah. We've said all along that the lack of surprise is really big, you know, really hurt the show all along. 00;10;50;18 - 00;11;11;09 Derrick I think that it's one of those where they finally decide to listen to what the fans really wanted. They wanted all this stuff. That was in the last episode. They didn't really necessarily want everything else. So yeah. Kate, what do you think of the last episode? 00;11;13;04 - 00;11;55;09 Kate I will agree that this could have been a movie. I wish so. I had worked with this. I wish I had gone back and watched the first three movie episodes. I wish I had watched the first three movies and so that I knew what we were because I've seen them. I've seen them a couple of times, but I needed the refresher and I wish that after having watched those three, I also wish I had watched the fourth episode movie because I feel like I missed so many Easter eggs that big, big. 00;11;55;25 - 00;12;04;27 Kate I almost did Marvel big big Star Wars the in court which you guys caught it like I kept texting our group chat saying hey is this significant? I can't remember if this. 00;12;06;14 - 00;12;08;00 Derrick I think it was land ladies. 00;12;08;00 - 00;12;35;12 Kate Holding his holster. But overall, this has been my favorite Star Wars series of any star Wars series. I think because I knew the players in it, I knew who Obi Wan was. I knew who Luke was, I knew who it was. I was low key, super hoping that we were going to see a child, Chewbacca or a child, Han Solo like Low Ki hoping for that. 00;12;35;23 - 00;12;53;20 Kate But I know that that's far fetched and that's just me being like, Oh, that would have been so funny. But other than that, I thought it was great in my opinion. Granted, I haven't seen all of The Mandalorian, but in my opinion, this was my favorite of all of these Star Wars TV shows, too. 00;12;53;21 - 00;12;55;19 Pete He's already an adult at this point. I was just going to say the other thing that I really liked about the finale and the series as a whole was the use of all of the actors from the previous trilogy, which I really like from the 1 to 3. Everyone was their own actor. I was really happy with that. 00;13;20;26 - 00;13;35;16 Derrick Sam says if Darth Vader's bad at killing people, why does he leave Reva and Obi-Wan without checking if they're dead? But you got more sense in their duel on Guest Star. Then why he kicks the robes? Is he will? 00;13;35;21 - 00;13;36;08 Gina Sure. He's dead. 00;13;36;16 - 00;13;38;20 Warren Fully gone? Yeah. Yeah. 00;13;38;20 - 00;13;40;09 Gina So really dead this time. Yeah. 00;13;41;02 - 00;14;04;11 Derrick And he knew Obi Wan wasn't dead because Obi Wan actually got carried off in that first one and says, see, the Obi Wan put the critical head across Darth Vader's head. The hit gave him the scar you see in Return of the Jedi. When Luke takes off the helmet. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Nick says you're all saber your eye out Kenobi. 00;14;04;28 - 00;14;09;07 Derrick Well, more likely. Know Kenobi the Luke Lucas savior. 00;14;09;11 - 00;14;10;16 Gina Luke will saber his eye out. 00;14;12;01 - 00;14;24;13 Derrick Steve says, read an interesting article about have his mask being destroyed by Kenobi in the animated series, his student destroyed the opposite side. I'm going to take silk. That's something I want to see in rebels. 00;14;24;15 - 00;14;24;25 Gina Yeah. 00;14;25;04 - 00;14;35;27 Derrick Okay. I didn't return at the battle with Luke's old mask being removed. Okay. And as Vicki says, the next sick character is Baby Chewie. 00;14;36;10 - 00;14;39;15 Kate Don't forget, she said she really enjoyed the series as a whole. 00;14;39;25 - 00;14;49;27 Derrick Yeah. And yeah, definitely. And so I'm going to go with you. Thoughts on the entire series? Thoughts on the series as Obi-Wan? 00;14;50;05 - 00;15;00;09 Pete I don't think I've ever agreed with you as much as I have with this series. Like like our our thoughts are very simpatico. I don't know if it's like mental illness on my part or what it is. 00;15;00;28 - 00;15;03;24 Derrick But oh, you're probably to me. 00;15;03;24 - 00;15;05;02 Pete Oh, he's I thought he was going to push the. 00;15;05;02 - 00;15;06;02 Derrick Button to the nightclub. 00;15;06;23 - 00;15;26;07 Pete But yeah, I like to me, I think this would have worked better as a movie or a TV movie or something. I it, you know, I said it kind of all along. The problem is the problem with pulling in Leia and Lee and Luke especially is now you have even more characters you can't really have anything happen to. 00;15;26;18 - 00;15;54;14 Pete So you made a whole bunch of characters on this show that you're very limited in what you can do. So the only character really was Reva that you could develop particularly. I do think they had I again, I loved Ewan McGregor throughout the series and I think they did bring him on a little bit of a growth journey, but not not huge. 00;15;55;07 - 00;16;23;09 Pete And so I guess like because they couldn't change that much, I would have I don't know, I would I wish they'd been able to like bring in more original, original characters so that we could have there could have been some drama like even even like I on the last episode, I really enjoyed the Obi-Wan and Darth Vader section, but then they kept intercutting with Riva chasing after Luke. 00;16;23;18 - 00;16;44;19 Pete And I'm like, We know how this is going to end. There's no way she's going to, you know, there's no way something's going to happen to Luke here. There's there's no suspense. So stop cutting to this other thing. At least the the lightsaber battle. There was like some suspense. I mean, you knew, again, that in the end they had to come out okay, but you didn't know how it was going to happen. 00;16;44;19 - 00;17;08;25 Pete And it was I don't know. I thought that was exciting. And then they were cutting this other thing that was like and I don't know, that's just unfortunately, that's the way I feel. I well-produced, you know I think it's worth it to watch it once for Star Wars fan if you if you're especially if you're a fan of that character is that Ewan McGregor did a great job and actually they did a great job with Darth Vader, too. 00;17;08;25 - 00;17;19;11 Pete They did. They did a great job with both characters. So really good character work. The plot was kind of that's that's my opinion. How about you, Derek? 00;17;19;17 - 00;17;26;18 Derrick Yeah, I totally agree. Where I'd like to start is what were some of your favorite movies growing up? What what movies did you love as a kid? 00;19;25;25 - 00;19;29;10 Warren Movies that I loved as a kid. Star Wars. 00;19;30;05 - 00;19;31;13 Derrick Okay. 00;19;31;13 - 00;19;41;17 Warren Raiders. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Tron, Buckaroo, Banzai. Oh, yeah. Told you. And then we have a question from Steve is how did you start being a stand in what how did your acting career get rolling? How do you become a stand in? Oh. 00;20;08;06 - 00;20;42;10 Warren Well, let's see. Stand in is a is a position on set where you stand in for your principal actor. So what you're doing is your your your you're there to help set up all of the lighting things to make sure that all the lighting is going to be perfect. And all of the camera movements and the focusing and and all of the marks that the actor has to hit, you're in essence, a like a rehearsal actor. 00;20;43;11 - 00;21;23;28 Warren Now, most of the time you're standing there to absorb the light and to see where you're where you're standing. But there are times when you also have to run what's called second team rehearsals. Second team is, is what standards are called with the obviously the first team being the principal actors. So sometimes I'll have to run a whole rehearsal as Obi-Wan, you know, to get all if there's a lot of background actors that you know, or a very complicated scene and then you do that most of the time it's standing there doing basic movements and then just getting everything set up. 00;21;24;29 - 00;21;56;16 Warren How I started, I started as a stand in from doing background work. They usually start pulling people up from background to stand in and then from there I worked in various TV shows, but my first big basically what you do is once you're there, then you're meeting everybody, you're meeting all the assistant directors, you're meeting all of the casting people and it's it's just making, making connections. 00;21;56;16 - 00;22;13;22 Warren So one of the casting directors that I had been working with needed someone to stand in on call the while. So my first big standing job was standing in for Dan Stevens Hal in that the bad guy and call the wild. 00;22;13;24 - 00;22;16;13 Derrick Okay is that the Harrison Ford one of the Charlie. 00;22;16;13 - 00;22;18;16 Warren Harrison the hey what. 00;22;18;25 - 00;22;19;08 Gina Not that. 00;22;19;08 - 00;22;24;22 Warren Old I guess they're saying. I mean, I don't. Yeah, yeah. Okay. I know. 00;22;24;22 - 00;22;26;02 Derrick The Grays worked for. 00;22;26;02 - 00;22;31;29 Gina You in conversation earlier saying that we were in the middle of really old and just old. So you've got photo doubling in front of the camera where you're portraying somebody. Usually it's a hand or a back of your head or a side of your head or like in exactly in call the wild. There's a scene where Hal is crouching around trying to is just about to kick in the cabin door to see if he can find Harrison Ford while those hands and the feet walking in the in the through the trees is me holding the holding the rifle. 00;23;15;28 - 00;23;18;27 Warren And then when the door kicks in, it's obviously Dan. 00;23;22;02 - 00;23;26;21 Derrick Very, very cool. So when you were in the wedding? 00;23;26;21 - 00;23;53;20 Warren Singer Oh yes. That was my first background gig was standing in I was standing sorry was, was being the one of the groom's men in the first the opening sequence the opening with the with the him singing You Spin Me right round. Yes. So I'm one of the guys dancing off, off, beat to the door and him singing that thing. 00;23;53;27 - 00;24;05;25 Warren And that was about a week's worth of filming because we filmed the entire wedding down there. Oh, that was. Yeah, yeah. So you can catch on there as well. Yeah. 00;24;06;07 - 00;24;19;17 Pete So eventually you want to focus on Obi-Wan, but what other things, what other movies would or show or TV shows would we, you know, have maybe seen you in, you know, as a working actor, might have. 00;24;19;17 - 00;24;37;27 Warren Well, you know, you might have seen me driving a golf cart in Modern Family or I'm driving Sophia Vergara and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, you know, as they're looking for Oprah's house. Small, small parts here. And. 00;24;38;00 - 00;24;38;09 Pete Yeah. 00;24;39;01 - 00;24;47;15 Derrick Okay. Now, Robert, who apparently knows you from college, wants to know how your role as a wedding reception dancer prepares you for Obi-Wan. 00;24;48;03 - 00;25;19;01 Warren Well, Robert, that's a that's a fascinating question. I want to thank you for for doing that really, the the motions of the dance in. So you spin me right round it. There's something about the channels. I'm going to call it your cheat. Did you have a moment, I guess, where you were like, oh like this is really what I do is really cool. And so anytime there was anything with the bad guys doing anything, I had no idea except for the one time I stood in awe, I was, I got in the stormtrooper uniform on Obi-Wan. Yeah. They they taught me how to ride a camel, which riding the camel isn't that hard. It's the getting up because they're like eight feet tall, but they kneel down, so you have to swing your foot over to get on. And then you're like, okay, I'm only a couple inches off the ground. 00;31;20;05 - 00;31;50;07 Warren And then they do this thing where they kind of fly off the front if you're not careful. So yes, there's a real camel. And then what they do is they have little CGI markers, okay. Where they're going to change the around and then they also had a prosthetic head when it was eating, you know, when he was feeding the whale to it and it would come out. 00;31;50;07 - 00;32;22;25 Warren And so there was a prosthetic head, you know, that that they were using. That's cool. Cool. That's what impressed me a lot on the show is all the practical makeup and the practical special effects were amazing. They had same thing with with a book of Boba Fett where they have servos, like 32 little motors in these masks that people are wearing. 00;32;24;04 - 00;32;53;10 Warren And they've got, you know, one person controls the eyes, one person controls the eyebrows, one person controls some little things on the on the alien. And then the best part is when they're doing when they're speaking, if you have, like Zach Braff doing a voiceover, he's wearing this thing where as he's moving his mouth, it translates to a servo in the mask that the guys that someone else is wearing and it will make his mouth move. 00;32;53;28 - 00;32;58;07 Warren So it takes 15 people to make these, but it's practical and it's so. 00;32;58;12 - 00;33;02;24 Pete It's so he's on set when he's playing that character. And what they do is they project out the image using video game technology, video game engines so that the camera is locked into a certain position. So you're actually acting against something. However, you can also get brought in as a stand in by the assistant directing department or, you know, some other way. We can't say much about it. You might have to grow a beard. Can you grow a beard for it? I'm like, sure. So I get there and I figure out it's Obi Wan and I'm like, I'll grow whatever you want me to grow. Are you kidding me? It's a low budget behind and you know, they're on the outer rim and they don't get there, you know, so low budget and then one and then one guy. I think that is that the drama was in the beginning was him, you know, really being in this place where he's failed and he's that kind of drama is, you know, it's internalized but it's that's something you have to kind of see as time goes on, like, oh, Obi-Wan is depressed or whatever, you know, it's, you know, you kind of have to see, Oh, he's having these nightmares of order 66. 01;00;35;11 - 01;00;44;25 Warren He's having these nightmares of, you know, so there was it was an internalized. 01;00;45;11 - 01;00;47;15 Derrick Yeah, yeah. And I think a lot I think a lot of things I thought a lot of the character stuff worked really well like that, like the, the arc that he went through and the arc that Leo went through. And I did like I did like that they, they kind of spoofed us with like in the ads. It's like, Oh, it's going to be about Luke. 01;01;06;02 - 01;01;08;05 Pete But then Luke was kind of like, Nope, one. 01;01;08;07 - 01;01;08;14 Gina I said. 01;01;09;02 - 01;01;09;09 Warren Yeah. 01;01;09;17 - 01;01;32;10 Pete Yeah, it's going to be about Leia. And I was like, Oh, and that makes a lot more sense because I know, I know she says something about you, you know, that you worked for my father or whatever, like that. But you get the sense that she knew him or at least who he was. So it was kind of nice seeing that relationship build in the story and there was a lot of good character stuff. 01;01;32;10 - 01;02;00;10 Warren I thought there were little things that I liked, like when he they he just rescues her there in the alley and, you know, she, her, her Lola is broken and he's kind of being a jerk, you know, he's like, Oh, go the good. It's not going to make any. No, it's great. Perfect. Then he kind of realizes, Oh, shit, okay, I'm supposed to be watching over these kids. 01;02;00;10 - 01;02;09;11 Warren And and so he softens their a little bit and you start seeing him trying to to get pulled out of this. 01;02;09;11 - 01;02;12;14 Derrick Yeah, I think it really pulls them out of the funk that he's in. 01;02;12;27 - 01;02;14;29 Warren Yeah, for sure. 01;02;14;29 - 01;02;22;19 Gina So and I do like at the very end how they do tie the nice bow on everything and I feel like it's all wrapped up nicely. I was saying before, he's my favorite person, he's my favorite character, and I feel like I got I finally get him now. So I knew the players and it was easier for me to follow. So Darth Vader is my favorite character and I really enjoyed in the finale seeing why Obi-Wan said he was dead and that for me was full circle. And that made this better, the better ending, and it tied it all together for me. So I was really worried cause I'm like, I don't care, you know? 00;08;29;20 - 00;08;46;24 Gina No one cares about Leia. She's cute, she's spunky, but we already know she's going to be okay. She's going to be the senator. She's going to be a princess. We know. And then we know about Luke. We know his whole journey. So I was really happy to see why did Obi-Wan say that? I knew there they had some flaws with the entire concept and that there was only like you knew that a battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi could not end in either of them being seriously injured or killed. So that really limited what they could do with that. 00;09;21;05 - 00;09;50;27 Pete And I thought with that limitation, they did a really good job of making it in such a way that, you know, I enjoyed that. I was like, you know, going, Yeah, and that kind of thing. And I did like I liked the ending in the wrap ups and everything like that. And I and I kind of, even though it was probably the least surprising secret cameo in the history of secret cameos, I enjoyed the cameo at the end. 00;09;51;14 - 00;10;03;20 Pete And so so overall it was it was definitely a good episode and I enjoyed I thought they wrapped it up well. They wanted all this stuff. That was in the last episode. They didn't really necessarily want everything else. So yeah. I wish I had gone back and watched the first three movie episodes. I wish I had watched the first three movies and so that I knew what we were because I've seen them. So the only character really was Reva that you could develop particularly. There's no way she's going to, you know, there's no way something's going to happen to Luke here. There's there's no suspense. So stop cutting to this other thing. At least the the lightsaber battle. There was like some suspense. I thought that was exciting. And then they were cutting this other thing that was like and I don't know, that's just unfortunately, that's the way I feel. So what you're doing is your your your you're there to help set up all of the lighting things to make sure that all the lighting is going to be perfect. And all of the camera movements and the focusing and and all of the marks that the actor has to hit, you're in essence, a like a rehearsal actor. 00;20;43;11 - 00;21;23;28 Warren Now, most of the time you're standing there to absorb the light and to see where you're where you're standing. But there are times when you also have to run what's called second team rehearsals. Second team is, is what standards are called with the obviously the first team being the principal actors. So sometimes I'll have to run a whole rehearsal as Obi-Wan, you know, to get all if there's a lot of background actors that you know, or a very complicated scene and then you do that most of the time it's standing there doing basic movements and then just getting everything set up. 00;21;24;29 - 00;21;56;16 Warren How I started, I started as a stand in from doing background work. They usually start pulling people up from background to stand in and then from there I worked in various TV shows, but my first big basically what you do is once you're there, then you're meeting everybody, you're meeting all the assistant directors, you're meeting all of the casting people and it's it's just making, making connections. 00;21;56;16 - 00;22;13;22 Warren So one of the casting directors that I had been working with needed someone to stand in on call the while. And that's the little piece of the script that you're going to be shooting that day. So there may be parts of it scratched out that, you know, we already did that or we're not doing that anymore. But it's the little piece. Every day you get a little piece of what's going on. 00;28;13;27 - 00;28;34;21 Warren And again, I was only standing in for you. And so anytime there was anything with the bad guys doing anything, I had no idea except for the one time I stood in awe, I was, I got in the stormtrooper uniform on Obi-Wan. Yeah. So I was in one of those. 00;28;35;13 - 00;28;40;03 Derrick So you weren't the stand in for the lightsaber fight with Darth Vader? 00;28;40;03 - 00;28;42;15 Warren You know what? When they do that, when they do that camel thing, are you actually on like a camel and they just rapids head in the greenscreen and replace the head? They they taught me how to ride a camel, which riding the camel isn't that hard. It's the getting up because they're like eight feet tall, but they kneel down, so you have to swing your foot over to get on. And then you're like, okay, I'm only a couple inches off the ground. 00;31;20;05 - 00;31;50;07 Warren And then they do this thing where they kind of fly off the front if you're not careful. So yes, there's a real camel. And then what they do is they have little CGI markers, okay. Where they're going to change the around and then they also had a prosthetic head when it was eating, you know, when he was feeding the whale to it and it would come out. 00;31;50;07 - 00;32;22;25 Warren And so there was a prosthetic head, you know, that that they were using. That's cool. Cool. That's what impressed me a lot on the show is all the practical makeup and the practical special effects were amazing. I think that is that the drama was in the beginning was him, you know, really being in this place where he's failed and he's that kind of drama is, you know, it's internalized but it's that's something you have to kind of see as time goes on, like, oh, Obi-Wan is depressed or whatever, you know, it's, you know, you kind of have to see, Oh, he's having these nightmares of order 66. 01;00;35;11 - 01;00;44;25 Warren He's having these nightmares of, you know, so there was it was an internalized. 01;00;45;11 - 01;00;47;15 Derrick Yeah, yeah. And I think a lot I think a lot of things I thought a lot of the character stuff worked really well like that, like the, the arc that he went through and the arc that Leo went through. And I did like I did like that they, they kind of spoofed us with like in the ads. And I was like, Oh, and that makes a lot more sense because I know, I know she says something about you, you know, that you worked for my father or whatever, like that. But you get the sense that she knew him or at least who he was. So it was kind of nice seeing that relationship build in the story and there was a lot of good character stuff. 01;01;32;10 - 01;02;00;10 Warren I thought there were little things that I liked, like when he they he just rescues her there in the alley and, you know, she, her, her Lola is broken and he's kind of being a jerk, you know, he's like, Oh, go the good. It's not going to make any. No, it's great. Perfect.
