He has played CIA agent Everett Ross in Captain America Civil War and Black Panther and has been confirmed to be in the upcoming Black Panther sequel. So that's exciting. Next up, I'm super pumped about this. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio have been confirmed as appearing in this upcoming series Echo. 00;04;01;24 - 00;04;15;18 Kate Cox will reprise his role as Daredevil and an Oreo as kingpin, who we saw being shot at the end of the Hawkeye series. Wonder Man was a Hollywood actor, and Stuntman started as a villain, but Reformed became an Avenger and developed feelings for the Scarlet Witch. Well, I don't know how they're going to tie it. And it's actually in the form of Light and magic, a docu series about industrial light and magic. The leader in Hollywood, special effects. I think we're going to start off with tonight is we have episodes three, four and five of Miss Marvel that we need to talk about. Pete, I'm going to start with you. Can you talk a little bit let's talk about her powers, because her powers have really, really developed since episode two. 00;10;29;03 - 00;10;33;11 Derrick And you kind of talk about some of the origins of them and, you know. 00;10;33;11 - 00;11;02;21 Pete Horror for sure. So I'm not certainly not an expert on the comics or anything like that, but I will try to try to talk a little bit about that. So like it appeared initially, she got her power from the bangle that she got. But as the story has progressed, I think we've found out that she is a relic or she is related to the the the jinn, the gin. 00;11;03;11 - 00;11;11;03 Pete And she are also known as the people from Nur. I think it was Nora. Right. That was the name of the. 00;11;11;16 - 00;11;13;09 Derrick The other parallel. 00;11;13;09 - 00;11;45;08 Pete Dimension. So if you go back to the original comics, I think she was basically an inhuman. And for anyone that watched Agents of Shield, she got her powers from the terror and mist and was you know became an inhuman which gave her in the comics I believe it was like stretching powers or like shape changing powers. I guess it would be in the series instead of shape changing powers. 00;11;45;08 - 00;12;06;02 Pete They gave her this, I think it's called they're calling it hard light or solid light or something like that. And so she can she can basically create these, you know, these crystals and which then dissipate. And she can use those powers to, you know, punch people and create platforms that she can run up and down and things like that. 00;12;06;17 - 00;12;18;02 Pete And so the power from the this is the impression I'm getting anyway is the power from the bangle is really like in her from. 00;12;18;02 - 00;12;18;20 Sam Her. 00;12;19;04 - 00;12;36;28 Pete Inherited from her family. Correct. So whether or not she needs the bangle or not, I'm not completely sure because yeah. Just in this last episode we saw the, the, the, the son of I keep forgetting what they were called besides the jinn. They were. 00;12;37;10 - 00;12;37;28 Derrick They were the. 00;12;38;18 - 00;12;39;19 Sam Clandestine. 00;12;39;26 - 00;13;08;19 Pete Clandestine, the clandestine. So the, the son of the clandestine leader was given kind of similar powers. And in doing so, he doesn't have a bangle. Right? So like, does she really need the bangles? The Bangle. And then very subtly, when Asia found the bangle, they mentioned, oh, there should be two of them, one, and for each one for each wrist. 00;13;10;02 - 00;13;21;27 Pete And this is something you guys might not have noticed, but in that room where Aisha found the bangle on the floor is the symbol for the ten rings from Shin Chee. 00;13;22;00 - 00;13;24;22 Sam Mm. Oh, I suppose so. 00;13;24;22 - 00;13;32;28 Pete It's quite possible that the bangle is related to the ten rings. Right. Which also gives you all kind of. 00;13;33;08 - 00;13;33;22 Sam For clues. 00;13;34;09 - 00;13;35;11 Kate In terms. 00;13;36;01 - 00;14;04;16 Pete Right. So there's there's a lot of there's a lot of unanswered questions to me about this power that she has. Um, you know, again, clearly, at least part of it is from her ancestry as being part from another dimension, I guess. Right. And, but how much of it is the bangle how much of it is the, the artifact, I should say, which is the bangle and how much of it is her. 00;14;05;03 - 00;14;18;10 Sam And does her. And we don't know like it does her mother have the power? We don't know why Cameron didn't have the power until his mom transfers it to him at the end there. So, yeah, there's a lot of unanswered power. 00;14;18;12 - 00;14;41;21 Pete And we'll point out none of these clandestine people had any kind of power like she has. Right. I mean, they could they they had their they could make like their weapons appear and things like that. But they didn't have they certainly don't have her power. So yeah, it's it's it's unclear I guess is the best way to put it right now about her power. 00;14;42;13 - 00;14;56;12 Pete But it is kind of interesting that now her mom knows about it as well. So it's not it's becoming less and less of a secret identity, I guess, because Bruno knows about it and not Nadia. What's her friend's name? 00;14;56;24 - 00;14;57;12 Kate Nakia. 00;14;57;20 - 00;14;58;14 Derrick Nicky IKEA? 00;14;59;13 - 00;15;15;15 Pete Yeah. So quite a few people are finding out about it, but yeah. And I guess we'll find out. Maybe we'll find out more in the last episode. I'm feeling like we probably won't. So I think this is something that's going to come up in the the sequel, which is going to be movie. 00;15;15;25 - 00;15;27;11 Sam Yeah. Yeah. And we, and we don't really understand Nygma Cameron's mother, we don't understand her power, how she was able to transfer power at the end there. 00;15;27;11 - 00;15;28;10 Pete Through the rift. 00;15;28;25 - 00;15;46;22 Sam Yeah. Yeah. So that was also we don't know if she actually did she have that power in her and then I mean, that part I think as we talk a little bit more about that later. But I thought that part was actually quite confusing. Didn't really we didn't get enough background I think to understand how that happened. 00;15;47;13 - 00;16;06;08 Pete Yeah. And I guess that's what I'm trying to get at is I feel like we're getting bits and pieces but not getting a good whole picture of how this all works, which is usually not what Marvel gives us. They usually give us by the end, they kind of let you know where it came from. But we'll see. We'll see. 00;16;06;08 - 00;16;07;15 Pete We get one more episode, right? 00;16;07;24 - 00;16;09;08 Sam Yeah, yeah. 00;16;09;08 - 00;16;12;02 Pete So what else are we going to talk about? 00;16;12;02 - 00;16;26;09 Derrick Okay. And it's and it's really interesting. You talked about her, the Bengal being it versus the Terriers and mist in the comics. She is actually one of the first ones. Her and Scarlet Witch are some of the first ones to actually pull in the X-Men. 00;16;27;08 - 00;16;29;05 Sam Oh, interesting. Oh oh. 00;16;29;16 - 00;16;38;24 Derrick She because by becoming an inhuman that matches up with the X-Men being Inhumans basically so that's kind of. 00;16;38;24 - 00;16;40;08 Sam How they're mutants though. Yeah. 00;16;40;27 - 00;16;43;02 Pete Yeah. 16 not Inhumans. 00;16;43;14 - 00;16;48;06 Derrick But it's that's how that, that's how that's one way they get brought in is through. 00;16;48;15 - 00;16;49;23 Sam Inhumans. Okay. 00;16;49;23 - 00;16;52;17 Derrick Yeah. Yeah. 00;16;52;29 - 00;16;57;17 Pete So, but speaking of which, I think Sam is going to talk about some of the relationships. 00;16;58;04 - 00;16;58;16 Sam Oh yeah. 00;16;58;16 - 00;17;01;25 Pete That Kamala has because there's a lot of them. 00;17;01;25 - 00;17;26;09 Sam Yeah, we have so many. Right. We especially in this these last couple of episodes, we're seeing a lot of development in the relationship with her mother and of course, some with her grandmother. And then in the towards the very end, we see with her great grandmother, of course, when she rescues her great grandmother. Derek, you're you're questioning she she's the one. 00;17;26;29 - 00;17;28;28 Derrick The great is the one that dies. 00;17;29;17 - 00;17;57;07 Sam The grandmother is oh, sorry. The grandmother is the one she rescues. You're right. Sorry. The great right. She has a moment with her great grandmother and then she rescues her grandmother. Sana Yeah. So I think the relationship with the mother is one of the more interesting relationships that's happening. I mean, it's a very typical mother daughter relationship, but then we're seeing we're finding more about the mother and how the mother was a bit of a rebel herself. 00;17;57;08 - 00;18;19;12 Sam You know, of course, her her mother seems very straitlaced at the, you know, several first episodes. And then now Kamala's is finding out that her mother went around and followed Bon Jovi. So, you know, fun little tidbits like that and her how her mother was kind of a rebel in Pakistani in a Pakistani community. So I think that's really nice to see. 00;18;19;19 - 00;18;43;15 Sam Again, we see her relationship with her grandmother. It seems quite close. And of course, you know, her grandmother has the same vision that she does and that's what brings them on this trip to Pakistan. I think that is a really nice thing to see. An interesting side note for that is the relationship between Kamala's mother and the grandmother and how they seemed kind of estranged at the beginning. 00;18;43;15 - 00;19;06;05 Sam And now during this visit to Pakistan, it seems like they are sort of rekindling that relationship as well. The other family members are some great ones. I mean, I think the brother is an interesting character being, you know, sort of helpful to Kamala and protective of her and sort of helping her with her a little bit overprotective mother. 00;19;06;24 - 00;19;34;13 Sam The father is obviously got a great sense of humor and is, you know, trying to trying to be funny and cool. I like his character, but then I think there's some other relationships that we just learned about. Well, our new character, Karim, who is the the the boy, the teenage boy with the red scarf over his face. This is bringing in the characters from the comics. 00;19;34;13 - 00;19;43;14 Sam There were there was the red dagger in the comics was a hero, but was actually Kamran not Karim. Right. My character. 00;19;43;27 - 00;19;47;03 Derrick I was incorrect earlier I this okay. 00;19;47;04 - 00;19;48;01 Sam So yeah so I was. 00;19;48;21 - 00;19;58;03 Derrick In the comics. Karim is Red Dagger. However, in the show, Red Dagger is shown to be more of a group or an organization. 00;19;58;14 - 00;20;05;27 Sam Oh, well, yes. There are. There is a group. But I would say Karim is Karim is fulfilling that role as red. 00;20;05;28 - 00;20;07;02 Derrick The one that's still alive. 00;20;07;13 - 00;20;25;15 Sam Right. He's alive. He's using the scarf. And he has clearly like hardcore knife throwing skills, which kind of reminds me of a different superhero TV show on Netflix called the Umbrella Academy but not a that doesn't divert there. 00;20;25;20 - 00;20;40;06 Derrick I can really I can go even older than that in a movie Eldorado the unfortunately now late James Caan his main weapon he does is throw a knife and that's all you defend himself in John Wayne movie. Excellent. 00;20;40;06 - 00;21;06;23 Sam So, yeah. So anyway, Kareem's a new character. We see her meeting him in Pakistan and becoming friends and then sort of hanging out with him, even in, you know, with his friends. And of course, Kareem is with her when she's, you know, fighting the jinn in Pakistan and helps her. And his group, unfortunately, ends up befalling to to the jinn. 00;21;07;19 - 00;21;14;19 Sam But there are some other characters, of course. We've got Bruno, her best friend back at home, who clearly has a crush on her so. 00;21;14;20 - 00;21;16;11 Derrick Far into the friendzone. Yeah. 00;21;16;17 - 00;21;27;09 Sam Poor Bruno. Yeah. And, you know, she definitely won't even talk about Bruno. We've got. We we've lovely we've. 00;21;27;20 - 00;21;28;07 Kate We've got. 00;21;28;07 - 00;21;54;28 Sam Cameron who obviously she has a crush on. He's sort of the opposite of Bruno and Cameron just got powers. So we know he's going to play a central role when she gets back to New Jersey. That'll be an interesting we'll see sort of if he becomes a young avenger as well. And then we, of course, have Cameron and Bruno developing a relationship. 00;21;54;28 - 00;21;55;18 Kate The need. 00;21;55;18 - 00;21;57;05 Sam I say, I mean, you know, it's. 00;21;57;20 - 00;22;00;03 Pete The relationship in which he now knows his name. 00;22;00;06 - 00;22;04;10 Sam So instead of calling him Ryan. Right, it's such a weird. 00;22;04;18 - 00;22;09;17 Kate Heart was when he goes, oh my God, I really didn't think it was Brian this whole time. 00;22;09;17 - 00;22;10;29 Sam Like that's. 00;22;10;29 - 00;22;11;06 Kate To me. 00;22;11;06 - 00;22;35;24 Sam Like that. Me too. But I think that will be interesting also to see now, now that Bruno, now that Cameron has superpowers and Kamala obviously has her superpowers, that we're going to see, you know, this interaction between the three of them, a lot more. Plus now, her friend, who, you know, also knows the female friend, also knows that she's got this power. 00;22;35;24 - 00;23;00;23 Sam So it'll be interesting to see. Do they become kind of a foursome, too, with superpowers, too without, you know. Well, I guess we'll we'll wait and see. But I think the development of the relationships here focused mostly on, you know, in these episodes, focused mostly on the mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother relationships in that storyline. But I thought it was very interesting and very well done. 00;23;01;08 - 00;23;04;29 Derrick And I would almost be willing to bet the mother does have powers. 00;23;05;28 - 00;23;06;29 Sam Yeah, I wonder. 00;23;07;10 - 00;23;20;29 Derrick Just because if great grandma, grandma and daughter have it the the mom's got to now whether she is aware of those whether she's she would be the it seems to me she would be the kind that would be suppressing the powers. 00;23;21;10 - 00;23;30;08 Sam Yeah. Maybe. Or maybe she's never put on the bangle and maybe that's why her powers haven't been activated, because grandma had the vision. We know, but we don't know if Mom had the vision. 00;23;30;08 - 00;23;33;27 Derrick But once she knew what the bangle was and she told her to put it away. 00;23;34;11 - 00;23;35;03 Sam True. 00;23;35;05 - 00;23;37;25 Derrick But we like bangle was true. 00;23;37;25 - 00;23;49;24 Sam But we don't know if that's because she saw her mother wearing it or something versus she wore it herself. So I think it's yet to be determined if mom has had has powers and if they've been activated. 00;23;50;03 - 00;24;02;15 Derrick And another thing with the grandma, I don't know if you noticed it, but she was worn like some really thin bracelets. And they made a point to have Kamala point those out. And she said, I'm going to have these. 00;24;02;26 - 00;24;03;03 Sam Yeah. 00;24;03;07 - 00;24;15;03 Derrick So that tells me that I'm not convinced it's the Bangles. And so that kind of that's like I mean, we just joked about learning from your from your entertainment. But, you know, I feel like I'm learning about a culture that I didn't really know a lot about. I don't just want to see a cliffhanger that we don't find out the solution to for nine months because we got to watch Miss Marvel or the Marvel's sorry. 00;39;42;23 - 00;40;04;25 Pete So I hope that they put the show in a place where we can, we can kind of wrap up the story pretty solidly and then of course have the end credits. I want to see it wrapped up with a pretty little bow, and then we get an end credits teaser at the end of episode six. And I just it just seemed to me like she's somehow going to be coming back. I know that she was, like, turned to ash by whatever surge was coming from that portal to the north world. And so we still have Loki in the universe, so. And I mean, Tom Hiddleston's Loki not not all of these other Loki's as well. So yeah, I'm Loki. Right. And now we also obviously with a multiverse, we can have anybody can come back in in a different in the same or different way because we have a, you know, an infinite number of of of universes that all might have slight changes. 00;41;20;05 - 00;41;46;24 Sam So anyway, I just think it will be interesting to see if she comes back, if she has some tie in to the big bad. I think that might be something we see. And then obviously how this will tie in to the the upcoming movies. But the other thing I'm curious about is Cameron and his role and how, you know, is he, like I said earlier, is he going to become a another young avenger? 00;41;46;24 - 00;42;15;25 Sam We've seen quite a few female young Avengers coming out recently, right between Hawkeye and and then, of course, Ms.. Marvel. And, you know, we have She-Hulk coming. We have a lot of female characters coming in. So I'm interested to see if now if Cameron's going become part of the mix as one of the male characters. I do think it'll be interesting if we start seeing some and I don't know if Marvel has this plan, but some non-binary young Avengers as well. 00;42;15;25 - 00;42;21;19 Sam I'm hopeful that that will be coming in the near future. I don't, I don't want to do that all the way past. All right. But I wasn't really thinking of it in the normal Marvel context because it's a TV show. But anyway. Yeah, it's the real the tie in is Baymax really. I mean it's it's him helping some of which are new characters and some of which I think are characters from that prior TV series with some problem or issue. 00;49;24;21 - 00;49;50;14 Sam The first episode stars Baymax in a cast, and cast was, you know, as heroes and and she's runs a coffee shop, a cat cafe, actually, and she ends up spraining her ankle. And it's about how Baymax is trying to help her with her cafe and and sort of teaching each one sort of teaches a lesson. And so it's a it's a this one is a really nice series. 00;49;50;14 - 00;49;59;20 Sam It's I know that it's getting people on the conservative end of the political spectrum quite mad, particularly episode three. And I thought. 00;49;59;20 - 00;50;01;10 Derrick That and dove into that theme because. 00;50;01;10 - 00;50;02;20 Sam Okay yeah a little. 00;50;02;20 - 00;50;07;23 Derrick Bit talk what is the controversy in episode three because it's definitely there. 00;50;08;00 - 00;50;27;18 Sam Yeah well there's your thoughts there there's a couple of things that I would say that are that that some folks are going to find controversial. Just the fact that the episode is about a girl getting her period for the first time. Right. So a pre-teen girl at school gets her period for the first time and Baymax essentially comes to the rescue. 00;50;27;24 - 00;50;49;25 Sam So you didn't just talking about that. I think there are some folks who are, you know, quite uncomfortable with that topic, which in my opinion is silly. It's something natural that happens to anyone, pretty much anyone who is born with a vagina. And I say born with a vagina because I am not going to even use the term female or woman. 00;50;49;25 - 00;51;13;21 Sam And that brings me to the other issue in that people are going that some conservatives are up in arms about, which is in the store when Baymax goes to get pads or tampons for this pre-teen girl who's just had her period for the first time, she's getting Baymax is getting advice from a number of people who happen to be in the store, which I presume is a CVS or something like that. 00;51;14;05 - 00;51;50;25 Sam And one of those folks who gives Baymax advice happens to be a transgender man and recommends, you know, whatever pad or tampon of choice. And so, you know, all the folks who are helping Baymax, all are people who presumably have or had vaginas and they are giving Baymax advice of what to get for this young girl. And I think it's wonderful that, you know, Disney is showing different representation of people, especially at this time in political history. 00;51;50;25 - 00;52;19;25 Sam I know I'm speaking to the sort of I'll call it the peanut gallery because I know you all are. I have similar feelings to me about this, but I don't think it should be controversial. But apparently some folks are probably in places where you can't say the word gay or are up in arms about this. Yeah. So so I'll pass it around to, you know, my friends. 00;52;19;25 - 00;52;30;21 Pete But though I come to that and I'm like, but isn't this really completely different from that in that like this is all women, you know, this is something all women have to deal with. 00;52;31;10 - 00;52;32;27 Sam All people are born with vaginas. 00;52;32;28 - 00;53;02;27 Pete Well, okay, sorry. All people born with the Giants have to deal with like it shouldn't be a it shouldn't be a controversial topic. Agreed when I watched the episode and I knew something very similar happened with Turning Red, which did not go into quite as much detail as this did. But they made some jokes that in for those that didn't see turning red, there's some jokes when the main character's turning into a panda that the mother thinks that she's gotten her. 00;53;02;27 - 00;53;03;06 Sam First. 00;53;03;14 - 00;53;20;12 Pete Period. And so, like she's trying to give her pads and things like that and it's played more for humor than than this, which clearly discusses the topic, you know, that that some people are bothered by. So it's like I when I watch this, I was like, oh man, if people were bothered by. 00;53;20;15 - 00;53;20;25 Sam Turning. 00;53;22;08 - 00;53;22;27 Pete This thing. 00;53;23;19 - 00;53;29;00 Sam The same way, dude, I was like, that's this is going to, yeah, this is going to get some people viewing. 00;53;30;07 - 00;53;53;03 Pete But like, but it's silly though. My wife and my daughter really like, really like I identified with this episode, you know, and so, so I think, you know, as a as a someone born without a vagina, you know, it maybe didn't hit as close to home, but it's still having a daughter. You know, she went through every every child, you know, goes through that. 00;53;53;03 - 00;54;06;15 Pete And, you know, it's oh, it's it's I don't know. I thought I thought it was great. I wish I had had something like this when I was a kid because it would have made me feel less alone, especially. I mean, I can't speak. Like you told your mom and your mom got you what you needed, but like it. Yeah. I mean, I guess we talked about it in sex ed, but not. So it was the perfect blend of comedy and comfort and honesty. I liked it a lot. I mean, you all were watching my reaction as I was watching it. I love Baymax. I just want a Baymax. I think everyone wants a Baymax. But I love the transgender representation and just I liked it. 00;55;07;08 - 00;55;13;17 Kate I liked it. But as I was watching it, I was like, Ooh, if people were mad about turning red, we're going. 00;55;13;17 - 00;55;14;20 Sam To be real. 00;55;14;29 - 00;55;16;15 Kate Mad about this one. 00;55;17;02 - 00;55;26;15 Sam They're going to be big mad. That's what I was thinking watching it. They're going to be big mad. And I was like, Bring it on, big man. Big mad. 00;55;26;29 - 00;55;35;11 Derrick I mean, as far as I'm concerned, okay. It's an it's an episode about it. I'm trying to think as a teenage boy. 00;55;35;11 - 00;55;42;15 Sam They should have one about wet dreams next year. Wow. No, no, that's a. 00;55;42;15 - 00;55;46;10 Pete Completely different thing. No, I think Disney should draw the line. 00;55;46;10 - 00;55;53;12 Sam Their puberty lessons, come on. Puberty lessons. They don't have to show anything. You know, my talk about it. 00;55;54;03 - 00;56;09;19 Derrick Was knowing a bunch of 12 year old boys because my son from that age very recently, I'm not sure her friend would have been as cool about it as he was. Is that does that make sense? He would have been freaking out a little bit more. I understand why they didn't have him do it. 00;56;09;27 - 00;56;10;07 Sam Yeah. 00;56;10;16 - 00;56;20;24 Derrick But had him thinking about a little bit more and I guess someone who is squarely not the not just in the Bible Belt, but I'm pretty much in the buckle. 00;56;20;24 - 00;56;22;26 Sam Yeah. That was definitely more an adult would notice. But you know what? It might it might be that another transgender person would notice, though. That's the other part. So maybe a young person happens to be transgender, might notice it, and also feel that they were being represented. Right. Because you don't see a lot of as Kate put it, you don't there isn't a lot of transgender representation in mainstream media, in television. 00;57;47;10 - 00;57;58;05 Sam Right. And so this is a, you know, a nod to that. And kudos to Disney for doing this. And and talk about periods in general. I thought it was enjoyable, and I liked that each episode had a lesson and that they had different characters, you know, that we got to know in the different episodes and then had at the last episode.
