There's not too much, but some of this news is not so such good news, at least in my opinion. So Disney's released details about its ad supported Tier that is going to be coming this December. Now, what I mean by that is for the Disney plus subscription. So the ad supported tier will remain at 799 a month, meaning you're going to get ads either during your shows or in between your shows. 00;03;45;16 - 00;04;07;03 Sam But the ad free version is going to rise to 1099 a month. And then the bundle, including ESPN Plus and Hulu, will be going up a dollar from 1399 to 1499. So we're going to pay the same if you're willing to have ads, but you're going to pay $3 more if you want to continue with an ad free version. 00;04;07;04 - 00;04;13;13 Derrick So to me, it's going to be interesting because as of now, I get this free. You still get this free through Verizon. 00;04;13;21 - 00;04;14;03 Sam Mm hmm. 00;04;14;04 - 00;04;20;05 Derrick Right. But it's with Hulu with ads. In other news, this one is, I think, a good news. Don Cheadle provided an update that Armor Wars is still in production. It wasn't announced during Marvel Comic-Con, so there were fears that it was going to be you know, the series was canceled. But thoughts are is that excuse me, thoughts are that will fit into phase six of the MCU and will ago. 00;06;30;29 - 00;06;47;10 Derrick And the idea behind this is that basically all of Tony Stark's worst fears for his Iron Man technology are coming true. So it's not it's not a happy which I'm kind of gathering from. 00;06;47;29 - 00;06;52;29 Sam But then we kind of have that already. And one of the Iron Man movies, I forget which one it was. 00;06;52;29 - 00;06;55;03 Pete No, they were still functioning over him. 00;06;56;06 - 00;07;01;15 Sam Well his were but there was the copy that. It was released in theaters. Now, before we get into the plot, I do want to address at the opening shot. It's the idea behind this movie is in 1995. This is the movie that Andy saw that was became his favorite movie, which is why he was so excited to get the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger action figure. 00;09;07;01 - 00;09;11;07 Derrick Pete, I'm going to go to you. Did this movie feel like 1995? 00;09;12;01 - 00;09;37;07 Pete It did not. I in fact, that it I really tried to go into this movie with an open mind and I saw it in theaters. So I saw it maybe a month ago. So give me a lot of time to think about it. And that was one of the things that kind of drove me crazy about the movie was it felt like such a I was just joking earlier, but it kind of almost felt like a marvel movie, like there was a lot of heaviness to it. 00;09;37;07 - 00;09;57;27 Pete The the hero was very angsty and he was, you know, all these things. And it's like, that's not 1995. 1995 is in. And I went back and I was looking, it's like, Well, what were the movies then? It was like Stargate and it was, you know, a year later it was Independence Day. And these these movies are all very much. 00;09;58;01 - 00;10;03;15 Pete Good guy versus bad guy. That's that's what movies were like in the eighties and nineties. There was no but. 00;10;03;15 - 00;10;15;08 Sam We still had, you know, we still had sort of the nerdy guy prevailing and Stargate and being the real hero. So I you know, I have to tell you, I'm going to disagree with you, Pete, but I'm going to let you continue. 00;10;15;25 - 00;10;38;16 Pete So. Well, so I'm just I'm just saying, like all the stuff the Buzz Lightyear went through in this movie to me was not what I was expecting from a from a buzz like your movie. And I also expected it to be maybe a little more cheesy because if we were watching, if this movie had been made in 1995, we would look back on it and there would be some some more cheesiness to it. 00;10;38;16 - 00;10;47;16 Pete And I don't feel like they they caught that feeling to me. So I'll let you I'll let you argue the the pro on it. 00;10;47;29 - 00;11;14;13 Sam Yeah. You know, I think there were a lot of things or a lot of things that made me feel like this was a 1990s film. Now, there were plot lines that would not have happened in the nineties. For example, Alicia's relationship and marriage, right? It probably wouldn't have happened in 1995, but there were. But there were a lot of nods to the nineties, right? 00;11;14;13 - 00;11;40;28 Sam So there was buzz blows into the cartridge of Ivan on that first time. He goes, he's trying to hit hyper forward hyperdrive. Right. And so he's blowing into the what would be like a Nintendo cartridge, right? So that was 9090s, not really 1980s. We're talking like Nintendo, but it's Super Nintendo, N64, right? That was that definitely hit me in the nineties. 00;11;40;28 - 00;12;08;26 Sam The the robot cat socks, the first robot pet toy came out in 19 the 1990s. It was called techno. It was a robot dog and it was the big toy for Christmas. I don't know what year in 19. I think it might have been 1995, but I'm not sure. But that was kind of a big deal. And they, you know, obviously Socks was now a robot cat. 00;12;08;26 - 00;12;31;09 Sam So that was another nod to the nineties. To me, the music felt kind of nineties. If you looked at like the computer screens, they all looked like the old windows from the nineties with the sort of boxy layout and framing. So there were a lot of visual things and auditory things that were very nineties. It gave it a nineties feel. 00;12;31;09 - 00;12;57;10 Sam I agree the plot did not fit within necessarily. You know, what would have, would have, would have been in a normal nineties movie, but it's not, it's being released in 2022. Right. So it's got to be updated for today's, you know, time, too. So I think they did a good job in balancing nods to the nineties without recreating a nineties movie in its entirety. 00;12;57;11 - 00;13;17;16 Sam There were some nods to Star Wars. There were some nods to 2001 Space Odyssey. There were you know, there were a ton of of, you know, little Easter eggs here and there throughout the movie that were clearly nods to movies that would have been that would have been closer in time, but preceded this movie if it had come out in 1985. 00;13;17;20 - 00;13;22;21 Pete And what I will will give them is there were a lot of nods to things that buzz said. 00;13;23;04 - 00;13;24;16 Sam Yes, for sure. 00;13;24;16 - 00;13;43;13 Pete In the Toy Story movies. They didn't they didn't put them in Spanish mode. But as expecting at some point for him to try to get him to speak Spanish, that would have been great. But I do think that part of it was there were a lot you know, a lot of and they weren't necessarily just like the to infinity and beyond stuff. 00;13;43;13 - 00;13;50;13 Pete It was kind of more subtle lines from, you know, that Buzz had said at some point or another. Yeah, so I think. 00;13;50;13 - 00;13;52;26 Sam About the terrain and yeah, yeah, yeah. 00;13;52;26 - 00;13;55;29 Pete So, so that was, that was kind of cool. 00;13;55;29 - 00;13;59;20 Sam But no sign of intelligent life right now. 00;13;59;20 - 00;14;03;25 Pete No, there were a lot of it because my daughter and I, we would go, okay, that's number five. 00;14;04;04 - 00;14;04;12 Sam Yeah. 00;14;05;13 - 00;14;26;01 Pete Each other with whatever with every time they came up with the line. So there was, there was quite a few of those and you know, and I do think they captured Buzz pretty well and even I know I don't know, we're going to be talking about this later, but like not using Tim Allen, to me, that wasn't that big a deal. 00;14;26;01 - 00;14;33;29 Pete I know. Yeah. We're going to talk about a little later so maybe I'll hold off on getting into that. But do we want to do a quick summary of the movie. 00;14;33;29 - 00;14;35;15 Derrick I like on this point, guys. 00;14;35;22 - 00;14;39;00 Sam Sure, sure. 00;14;39;00 - 00;14;42;23 Derrick First, the techno, the dog I did look it up real quick. Came out in 2000. 00;14;43;22 - 00;14;44;28 Sam No, really? 00;14;45;05 - 00;14;45;15 Derrick Yeah. 00;14;45;25 - 00;14;50;01 Sam Wow. Yeah. Okay, guys from foreign. It was the nineties. 00;14;50;01 - 00;14;55;17 Derrick If I was a ten, 12 year old in 1995. This is not the movies that I was watching. 00;14;55;25 - 00;14;58;23 Sam Yeah, that's true. Looking at all that's true. 00;14;59;20 - 00;15;27;27 Derrick For one, it probably would have been considered for the most part, too scary for a kid to go see in the movie theaters because it would have been a PG 13 and parents would have been right on the edge because this would have been a PG 13 movie in 1995, probably, and I know it when you guys mentioned the all the different quotes to me that was trying too hard, that was really trying too hard to get all of the different things he said to play off those references of the original Toy Story. 00;15;28;13 - 00;15;47;13 Derrick That part didn't necessarily work for me, but as far as the 1995 movie, this was not a 1995 movie aimed at kids. This reminded me of 1995. You take away the language and this was alien or predator. It's now it was obviously wasn't that scary. 00;15;47;17 - 00;15;49;24 Sam Yeah. But it was like that kind of adult. 00;15;50;12 - 00;15;51;12 Derrick Serious. 00;15;51;16 - 00;15;52;06 Sam Yes. All right. 00;15;52;13 - 00;15;55;26 Derrick All right. Kids movie in 1995. 00;15;55;26 - 00;16;01;01 Pete Right. And we got a and we got a remember. How old was Andy in that first Toy Story movie? 00;16;01;01 - 00;16;02;09 Derrick You know, I'm worried that he was going. 00;16;02;09 - 00;16;07;27 Pete To say I don't he was 12. I think it was Yelich or something like that. So, yeah, he was he was definitely. 00;16;08;03 - 00;16;15;05 Derrick Like eight just because if he was 18 then ten years later, Toy Story three come up. Ten years later. 00;16;15;05 - 00;16;19;05 Pete Well, it came out more than ten years later, but this was. Yeah, I don't I don't remember. 00;16;19;22 - 00;16;25;15 Derrick But anyway he was not old enough to this would have been way too mature of a movie for him. 00;16;25;28 - 00;16;26;08 Sam Yeah. 00;16;27;20 - 00;16;38;02 Derrick So, Pete, let's go in and go a little bit through the plot. There's the little bit of it that there was. 00;16;38;02 - 00;16;53;20 Pete Yeah. So. Well, no, I think the opposite. I think there was way too much plot. So the Toy Story, I'm just looking this up real quick. The Toy Story script says that Andy is six in the first Toy Story. And how. 00;16;53;20 - 00;16;55;01 Derrick The heck does he see in this movie. 00;16;55;10 - 00;17;06;08 Sam If I have a I have a slight answer to that, but I'm going to hold it until we talk about another question, because I think it fits in nicely with that question. 00;17;06;08 - 00;17;29;22 Pete All right. All right. So I'm going to I'm going to go through this plot pretty quickly. Again, we talk about spoilers on this show. So if you really care about the plot of this this movie and don't want to see it, go watch the movie first and then listen to this. But basically, Buzz Lightyear is a space ranger that's on a deep space voyage where he's asleep. 00;17;30;25 - 00;18;02;26 Pete There's a they the the ship discovers a planet that has life on it. He's the first one that's woken up. They land on the planet. And basically he ends up wrecking wrecking the ship as they're trying to escape from this planet, because there's a bunch of nasty, nasty things on the planet. Beyond that, they end up spending the next third of the movie with him trying to develop a crystal fusion flight simulator. 00;18;02;26 - 00;18;13;19 Pete And they can't get the fuel mixture right. And he ends up taking off, going into space, and he comes back and it's like, what, two or three years later? Like he's like he's basically four years later. 00;18;13;25 - 00;18;26;20 Derrick Basically flight of the navigator for animated it's faster you go closer to the speed of light right and more time more right your time takes compared to everyone else's. 00;18;27;17 - 00;18;49;10 Pete So like so. But he's basically determined to fix his mistake. So he just keeps doing it over and over again. And eventually he ends up basically jumps a couple of years at a time and ends up all his friends are dead and everything like that. And then the last time he finally he gets this little robot cat called Socks. 00;18;49;10 - 00;19;06;14 Pete Somehow the robot calculates the fuel mixture that all the other so so and I shouldn't skip out on this the the base itself all these people on the spaceship have basically made a place for themselves to live and protect themselves from the creatures and the plants that are attacking them. 00;19;06;26 - 00;19;14;28 Derrick Which one can we take a moment and appreciate the humor of socks and the comic relief that Socks plays in this movie? 00;19;15;14 - 00;19;15;23 Sam Yes. 00;19;16;11 - 00;19;25;14 Derrick Yes. Was such it reminded me a lot of an intelligent dog in up isn't just what Socks reminded me of. 00;19;25;23 - 00;19;26;03 Sam Yeah. 00;19;26;28 - 00;19;32;24 Pete Yeah, he was. He was definitely much needed humor in a movie. That was pretty serious. 00;19;33;10 - 00;20;04;17 Sam Yeah. I mean, most of the time to your point, Pete, you know his best friend, Alisha, who's actually his commander or, you know, every time he comes back, she's older and older and then eventually she's got, you know, she's married and then she's has a child and then she has a grandchild and then she's got white hair and, you know, and then she and then the last time, you know, she's passed away and she leaves this heartfelt message for him, which, by the way, spoiler. 00;20;04;17 - 00;20;07;23 Sam You will cry if you don't cry. You have no soul at that. 00;20;07;23 - 00;20;08;27 Pete I have no soul. 00;20;08;27 - 00;20;11;17 Sam Really. Oh, you got it. 00;20;12;08 - 00;20;21;02 Pete It was a touching moment, but. But like, again, I was like, oh, no wonder Andy loved this movie. Everybody loves best friends dying and, you know. 00;20;22;07 - 00;20;25;19 Sam Best friends. But anyway, it was a beautiful it was. 00;20;25;19 - 00;21;02;18 Pete A nice moment. It was a very nice moment in the movie. But yeah. And then so the last time he, he, he gets his robot cat to also solve all of the problems again that somehow all the other computers in the station can't solve. And he steals the ship at that point to do one last flight ends up going 60 years in the future at that point, I believe, or it's a larger jump into the future and comes back and has solved the problem, but now they're being attacked. 00;21;03;01 - 00;21;24;11 Pete He finds that the base is being attacked by us, by a spaceship. And here's where we probably about halfway into the movie come across Zuckerberg. And these are bots that are attacking the ship. But he doesn't actually go back to the base. He ends up crashing out at some outer base and he ends up teaming up with some misfits. 00;21;24;17 - 00;21;40;23 Pete Yeah, misfits is a good way to put it right there are some recruits that aren't great. We get Taika Waititi as one of the misfits and he's awesome. And actually, actually the misfits are pretty entertaining. One of them is Alisha's granddaughter, I believe. 00;21;40;23 - 00;21;43;01 Sam Yep. Izzy is the granddaughter of Alisha. 00;21;43;04 - 00;22;06;12 Pete Yeah. And so, you know, now Buzz is all torn about should he use these people that aren't really trained as soldiers and should he go on on his own? And then there's more Avengers fighting the IRC bots and things like that. Eventually he ends up going up onto the ship to try to defeat it. And here's the big spoiler. 00;22;07;09 - 00;22;16;03 Pete You know, we all think that Zuckerberg is his father or maybe is his father from Toy Story two. No. Turns out what you want to say. 00;22;16;20 - 00;22;23;19 Derrick And I was going to say that pulls us into this point is, you know, the continuity with Toy Story two is an issue. 00;22;24;02 - 00;22;50;19 Pete So so I will say in Toy Story two, the main reason they did that was for a star Wars joke. Right. Of course, that you know, Luke, you're my father. Yeah. But in but in the end, the rest of that movie was, oh, yeah, he's my father. Let me play ball with them and everything like that. Well, in this movie, The Twist is that his father is another Buzz Lightyear from further in the future. 00;22;51;18 - 00;23;13;02 Sam And this is where the movie jumps the shark. Because when you play with time. Yeah, no, this is to me this is where the movie jumps the shark. Because when you start messing with time, nothing makes sense anymore. I mean, literally every movie that has ever, you know, messed with time, there is something that doesn't make sense. Okay. 00;23;13;08 - 00;23;15;26 Sam Is one of them Endgame? 00;23;15;29 - 00;23;20;19 Derrick So you're saying Endgame jumped the shark with the time travel? 00;23;20;19 - 00;23;21;07 Sam Oh, he didn't. 00;23;21;22 - 00;23;25;21 Derrick He didn't. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 00;23;25;28 - 00;23;32;24 Pete I'm okay. I am I'm I'm with I'm with Sam. I hate trip. There's two good time travel movies that I'll accept. 00;23;33;14 - 00;23;34;16 Derrick Back to the future. 00;23;35;03 - 00;23;36;27 Sam Yes. So Back to the future. 00;23;37;02 - 00;23;42;09 Pete I give I'll give back to future one and even back you're right back to the future to forget it now. 00;23;42;09 - 00;23;42;14 Sam Yeah. 00;23;42;20 - 00;23;48;17 Pete And Prisoner of Azkaban, the third Harry Potter movie, those are the only two movies that have. Except. 00;23;48;17 - 00;23;57;23 Sam No, but I'm trying. But the problem with Prisoner of Azkaban is they should extend the time turner more and gone back and killed Tom Riddle okay the end. 00;23;57;23 - 00;24;09;14 Pete Yeah but then you get then you get the half blood prince, which is awful. So. But anyway, it's not the Half-Blood. I'm sorry, the cursed child, but let's. We're not going into Harry. We're not a Harry Potter podcast. 00;24;09;14 - 00;24;17;14 Sam So apparently we could be. We could not. Yeah. No. 00;24;17;14 - 00;24;35;27 Pete Anyways, so I will agree there's some parts of Ed in game with the time travel that I don't care for. Yeah. Because I'm not because what Sam said, like time travel is almost impossible to do. Well, and actually, truthfully, Back to the Future doesn't do it very well either. But it's so entertaining. 00;24;35;27 - 00;24;37;12 Sam Just a fun movie. And the answer was so Lightyear was a live action film in 1995. And so that person who played buzz would have been different from the film version to the TV series because that's what happens all the time in the nineties.
